the history
Commonly known as Monti’s La Casa Vieja, the C.T. Hayden House originated as a typical, single-story
Sonoran row house built for the family of Charles Trumbell Hayden in 1873. Four years later, Carl Hayden,
deemed the “most important person in Arizona history,” was born in the residence and it later became
recognized as the oldest continuously occupied structure in Greater Phoenix. Through the years, this
structure has evolved from a family residence to a boarding house, and ultimately restored to what would
become an iconic restaurant for nearly 70 years. Dubbed “La Casa Vieja,” the building is a critical piece of
Tempe history and is now the oldest remaining building in the Salt River Valley.

the office
, positioned in a signature location along Mill Avenue in Downtown Tempe, affords
emerging generations of office users the broad appeal of a modernly designed building in a bustling job
sector. Located within a tech-centric corridor, will be a pivotal point of reference in
Downtown Tempe as current corporations expand their presence and a burgeoning influx of out-of-state
users relocate to Greater Phoenix. Designed with today’s tenants in mind, the project will incorporate
natural light with extensive glass lines on large, flexible footplates that can accommodate office users
who appreciate the true Class A office experience.
10
//
11
interior finishes
As businesses look to reduce their carbon footprints without reducing their corporate
images, buildings will need to remain flexible to accommodate the shift in workspace
designs. Future office space will be smaller, adaptable, and smartly designed to promote
connectivity. Interiors should be thoughtfully planned to include spaces designated for
productivity, collaboration, socialization, and group learning. At , high
ceilings, well-appointed furnishings, modern technologies, and sweeping views of the city will
provide users with the perfect backdrop for evolving work styles.
