2015 Onsted Middle School Summer Camps Onsted Middle School Project Lead the Way Engineering and Bio-Med Academy Engineering Camp Biomedical Camp Campers will be introduced to various fields of engineering using Project Lead The Way Curriculum. We will focus primarily on careers associated with Mechanical engineering, Aeronautical engineering, Civil engineering, Robotics and Bio Medical Engineering. Campers will learn fundamental skills such as sketching, drawing and Computer Aided Design (CAD) classes to communicate ideas while using the design process to complete an engineering task. Learn about medical technology, lab techniques, complete a bioengineering project, perform diagnostic lab activities, and Have Fun! Study topics involving the cardiovascular, nervous, digestive, and other body systems. Learn new skills each day toward a future Health Care career. Campers will participate in camp project competition at LISD Tech Center in conjunction with LISD Engineering Camp Explosion! Class meets Monday, June 8 through Thursday, June 11 from 9:00-2:30 and June 19 Camp Explosion@ LISD Tech Center (transportation provided to/from Onsted) Where? Engineering Camp: Classes will meet in the Onsted Middle School PLTW Lab and science lab/classroom Monday through Thursday. Biomedical Camp: Classes will meet in the Onsted High School Science lab 116 Monday through Thursday. What’s Included? Two snacks and one meal per day, all supplies, and transportation for the Field Trip th (engineering campers only) on Thursday June 11 to visit local manufacturing and industrial facilities to see how science, technology engineering and manufacturing skills are used. **Camp Explosion! will be held th Friday, June 19 at the LISD Tech Center. How much? $50 per student. Participation is limited to 25 students per class. Scholarships are available. Who are Instructors? Here’s what you need to know: Start Time: 9:00AM Students need to be dropped off about 8:45 Snack Time: 10:30AM Fruits/veggies Lunch Time: 12 noon Mon: Nacho/Taco Bar with assorted fruits, milk and juice Tue: Build a Dagwood Sub with assorted fruits, milk and juice Wed: Build a Pizza and salad with assorted fruits, milk and juice Thu: Sack lunch for field trips Snack Time: 2:00 PM Assorted Fruits, vegetables, cheese/crackers, juice/water End time: 2:30 PM Students need to be picked up by 3:00 th Camp Dates: Monday June 8th through Thursday June 11 and we will reconvene on Friday June19th for LISD Tech Center’s Camp Explosion! Engineering Camp: Monday through Wednesday will be learning and creation time in STEM areas such as Aeronautics (planes, gliders, rocketry), Civil Engineering (design and construction of Towers, and catapults), Robotics (VEX -Clawbot Competition) and Autodesk Inventor Pro Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software training. Thursday the campers will travel around the county visiting manufacturing facilities to see first-hand how the skills they have learned can be used for future careers. When they attend the Camp Explosion! on Friday, they will bring their creations to participate in test flights, VEX robotics competitions and the MDOT BRIDGE Design and Construction Challenge! Bio-Med Camp: We will be learning about many of the biomedical lab procedures such as organ dissection, gel electrophoresis, DNA analysis, microbiology, forensics, and more. Campers will also be able to learn about many biomedical careers that are available and have fun learning about the human body functions. During camp, students will begin to design and build an artificial heart valve and compete with other schools at the Camp Explosion! to find the best valve design.
