Orbital Education is pleased to announce that its latest project, The Britannica International School in
Shanghai, which opened in September 2013 is developing at a rapid rate and establishing itself as a
school of choice in the Shanghai expatriate community. The school is accommodated in newly
refurbished, custom re-built premises situated in the high quality residential district of Gubei. It has a
capacity for 750 pupils from 2 – 18 years of age.
It is the only truly British owned and managed, British style, international school in Shanghai. It offers
learning and teaching experiences based on the English National Curriculum enhanced to meet the
needs of its international student body. Students are prepared for Cambridge University IGCSE
examinations and the school will offer the IB Diploma or A Level programme for 16 – 18 year old
students.
The School has high expectations of its staff and welcomes fully qualified, flexible, creative, childcentred applicants who will further enhance the quality of teaching and learning at Britannica
International.
Due to continued expansion during this year the school needs an additional Primary teacher ideally
for April but definitely for August.
Applications are invited from experienced and dynamic teachers who hold a relevant degree, have
appropriate work experience and have a clear understanding of teaching at Primary level.
Individuals must be outstanding teaching practitioners. We require someone who will lead by
example, has the ability to provide a model of excellent classroom practice, who is highly committed,
and possesses excellent IT, organisational and communication skills.
Every member of the teaching staff is expected to contribute to the wider community aspect of school
life.
Essential Criteria
Since we are a British style school we will only consider applications from candidates who
- have QTS status recognised for the purposes of teaching in the UK and have a DfES
Teaching reference number
- have a minimum of 2 years teaching in a school in the UK or British style school
overseas
- are in possession of an up to date Police Clearance / DBS certificate from the country of
your most recent teaching post (This will be required to be presented at any future
interview)
Britannica International School, Shanghai is committed to safeguarding children and young
people. All post-holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS (in the UK) or Criminal
Records (Police Check) disclosure from their most recent country of residence.
- demonstrate in their letter of application how they will use their experience to address
the challenges of teaching expatriate and local children in a British style school in
Shanghai.

If shortlisted, at interview you will have to present a current DBS certificate or Police Check from your
current country of employment, copies of teaching qualifications which would allow you to teach in a
British school and proof of identity.
