The school
Britannica International School, Shanghai is a British style International school for pupils aged 2 – 18. It opened

The School has high expectations of its staff and welcomes fully qualified, flexible, creative, child-centred
applicants who will further enhance the quality of teaching and learning at the school
Due to continued school growth we are now looking for an experienced Pre-Nursery Teacher to join our
successful school and staff team in August 2015.
This role also carries with it the responsibility for coordinating the Early Years Department.
Children enter Pre-Nursery after they are 2 years old and follow the UK Early Years Foundation Stage
Framework throughout Pre-Nursery to Reception age. Rooms are bright, spacious and well resourced.
The Pre-Nursery teacher has a reduced timetable due to the sleeping arrangements for these children. This
provided non-contact time to support planning, preparation and management of the other EYFS classes.
The Pre-Nursery class is also supported by local, fully qualified and experienced Teaching Assistants, who are
managed by the Class Teacher.
All teachers in the school offer two Co-Curricular Activities, which tend to be focused on the individual
teacher’s particular skills and interests. Teachers are also expected to participate in duties each week, either for
part of the lunchtime or in the morning break.
Class sizes are small (maximum size 22 but mostly 14-18). Pupils are very well behaved and have a very good
work ethos and are bright and keen to learn.
The school is committed to teacher’s professional development and teachers are actively encouraged and
supported to make the most of CPD opportunities available both locally and in Asia.
Essential Criteria
Since we are a British style school we will only consider applications from candidates who
- have QTS or overseas equivalent, recognised for the purposes of teaching in the UK and hold an
appropriate PGCE qualification.
- have a minimum of 2 years teaching in a school in the UK or British style school overseas
- are in possession of an up to date Police Clearance / DBS certificate from the country of your most
recent teaching post (This will be required to be presented at any future interview)
