Facilitator Application “Youth Voices for Democracy: Experiencing Citizenship” Conference Sunday, March 22 – Wednesday, March 25 Salem Grand Hotel and Convention Center in downtown Salem, OR Facilitator Roles During the Experiencing Citizenship conference, Lead Facilitators and Assistant Facilitators will be assigned to an Issue Group = a small group (10-14) of conference delegates, that is formed around an issue that is important to Oregon citizens. Multiple times during the conference, each Issue Group will meet, work as a team, share ideas, explore and research options, find one or more good solutions to their issue, develop a presentation (power point or Prezi), and deliver that presentation to an Oregon state agency at the end of the Experiencing Citizenship conference. Lead Facilitators and Assistant Facilitators will be expected to help one Issue Group…: Work together and promote teamwork within their Issue Group. Get acquainted; support one another; take breaks; and stay focused as needed. Brainstorm ideas, consider options, be creative, be analytic Draw out individual ideas. Be supportive on one another. A. Lead Facilitators will: • Be age 17 to 25 • Listen to input from Issue Group members and Assistant Facilitator • Make decisions for Issue Group is B. Assistant Facilitators: • age 16 to 18 • Be a partner to the Lead Facilitator • Apply leadership skills; • learn more about group dynamics All who are selected for a Lead or Assistant Facilitator role will • register for Experiencing Citizenship before the deadline • submit a $20 deposit to hold a Facilitator position • participate in two (90-minute) information teleconferences • arrive at the Salem Convention Center by 12:00 noon, Sunday, March 22, 2015 • attend debrief session at the end of each day during the conference • support other Facilitators; make suggestions; solve problems together Written Application Why do you want to become a Lead Facilitator?
