POLYTUBES HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT (HMW)
High Density Polyethylene Pipe for
Siphon String
General Information
POLYTUBES extrudes its polyethylene pipe from a High Molecular Weight (HMW)
High Density Polyethylene (H.D.P.E.) hexene copolymer resin manufactured, using a
Novapol resin. This material provides an excellent combination of toughness, durability
and environmental stress crack resistance for pressure and non pressure pipe
applications. POLYTUBES polyethylene piping systems offers some unique
characteristics and allow the design engineer to take advantage of these attributes such
as low cost installation, excellent rough handling capability, cold temperature brittleness
resistance, excellent weather chemical resistance, will not corrode and long service life
with minimal maintenance requirements
This material is listed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Plastic Pipe
Institute (PPI) as a PE-3408 resin with a hydrostatic design basis (HDB) of 1600 psi for
water at 23oC. It complies with ASTM D-1248 as a Type III Class C, Category 5, Grade
P34 material and with ASTM D-3350 as a 345464C cell class material.
Identification of POLYTUBES polyethylene pipe by cell classification is as follows:

String
Commonly referred to as a velocity string
for continual fluid lifting from gas wells.
POLYTUBES extrudes this pipe product
from a specific High Molecular Weight
(HMW) High Density Polyethylene
(H.D.P.E.) hexene copolymer resin.
The design and material content have
been engineered for installations with
well bore pressures of 2100 psi and
landing depths up to 850 meter (2700 ft).
The Outside Diameter pipe size
increments designed to be utilized with
conventional tubing service units and
hang off equipment.
Efficiency Advantages
•
A controlled smooth seamless bore,
with a roughness factor 30 times
better than steel
•
A non-corrosive material that will not
corrode or restrict flow over time.
•
Any solids produced in the well will
not adhere as readily to this material.
(Solids that do adhere to the pipe
I.D.are easily dislodged with well
treatment additives).
•
Excellent resistance to well
treatment chemicals.
•
Excellent abrasion resistance,
specifically sand.
•
Ask us about our polymer
technology to achieve depths up to
1600 meters (5200 ft).

POLYTUBES PIPE DIMENSIONS 1600 P.S.I. HDB
POLYTUBES offers a comprehensive range of H.D.P.E. pipes based on outside
diameters. The design pressure for POLYTUBES pipe is determined in accordance to
the Standard ISO equation shown below:
POLYTUBES
Gas Gathering Piping Products
Calculation:
P=
2S
R−1
x
F
Where:
P design pressure, psi
S hydrostatic design basis (HDB) at 23°C,=1600 psi
(HDB=11.03 Mpa for PE-3408)
F service fluid factor (0.5 is recommended for water)
R ratio of pipe outside diameter to pipe minimum wall thickness.
Note: The Environmental or temperature factor is an additional de-rating factor to
compensate for temperatures higher than 23°C. (Consult your POLYTUBES
representative for higher temperature de-rating factor)
The recommended continuous working pressures for POLYTUBES "SIPHON
STRING" are identified by the SDR in the attached table.
