Abstract:
The talk will give an overview of the PhotonTransfer initiative and cover some key concepts in technology
transfer, the IP market, and patents, in the context of the photonics industry. The talk will also introduce
the XPhoton Open Innovation Challenge, which is a formula for successfully finding solutions that will
make companies advance their industry, solve a common customer need, and/or address an important
challenge that affects humankind by inviting the world’s best minds to apply their technical or scientific
talent to the problem or opportunity at hand.
Biography:
Ernesto Barrera is an applied physics engineer (Institut Polytechnique the Grenoble - 1994) with a Master
degree in telecommunications (Instituto Tecnológico Buenos Aires 2001) and executive MBA (ESADE
Barcelona 2011). After a short academic photonics research experience, he started his professional career
as field engineer in a large multinational doing high technological measurement in the Oil & Gas sector in
Egypt and remote locations as Amazons in Brazil, Southern Argentina and Bolivia. He was then a business
developer in an SMI (small and medium Industry) intermediary for high technology telecommunication
equipment imported and commissioned to Argentina telecommunications operators. He then became a
Product Manager for aeronautical final assembly lines for the Airbus A380 and A400M based in Spain,
successfully establishing European Partnership with top technological aeronautical providers. He was
then technical director and business developer of technical services in two international SMI in Spain. He
founded PhotonExport a consulting firm for technology transfer services for the valorization and
exploitation of Public Research Results. He co-founded PhotonTransfer.com, an on-line marketplace for
Intellectual Property and Light Based Technologies accelerating technology transfer and research
valorization. He is currently launching the XPhoton Open Innovation Challenge as Organizational
Associate of the International Year of Light 2015 Lead by UNESCO. He is now collaborating with several
Universities and public IP brokerage agencies in order to help valorization of Patents. He speaks fluently
French, Spanish, Portuguese and English.
