College for Kids has a limited number of enrollment spaces for each
class and all registrations will be processed in order of receipt.

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and
customize your own game app! Using a specialized game
development tool, students will explore the world of phonebased and tablet applications. Student created apps will be
accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile
device or computer. No prior experience is necessary and
students do not need to own a smart phone or tablet to take
the class.

Build It With LEGO® Architecture
9–12 years
Become an inspired architect of the future using LEGO®
Architecture sets and “Green Energy” kits. Build the Empire
State Building and learn how to change it to “go green” using
solar or wind power. Using LEGO® bricks, students will have
the chance to build several different landmark buildings
while discovering structural concepts, including stability
within bridges and towers, forces on structures ,and strength
of materials. Students will also learn about designing and
building structures from various materials, such as corrugated
plastic sheets, studded string, and wooden sticks. Explore the
most current trends in construction for a sustainable future. End
the week joining your classmates building an entire LEGO® city!

and chemistry. Think like a scientist and make observations

animals are the color they are; learn about atoms, molecules,
and more! You will have fun, get messy, and explore using the

Put on your chef’s hat and get ready to mix, slice, chop, cook,
and bake in this fun and extensive cooking class. We will be
exploring new ways to add some flavor to your dishes using
fresh herbs and spices. With hands-on experience, students will
learn how to use various kitchen appliances, make the tastiest
of foods and learn how to serve nutritious meals. We will be

Rocking Gizmos & Rolling Gadgets

Find out how sound waves and electricity become music to
your ears as you build your very own rock’n’roll, digital music
system that goes anywhere you go. Kids will explore, create,
and take home their own science gizmos and gadgets.

Comics, Cartooning & Animation

This exciting class will teach the fundamentals of cartooning
including the language of comics and storytelling through
various techniques and exercises in the media of comic books,
comic strips and animation. Learn how to story board, and the
basics of traditional animation and stop motion. You will learn
how to create, draw and develop your own original cartoon
characters, super heroes and more!

Video Game Design with “Scratch”
10–13 years
Design and modify your own exciting arcade-style video
games that will impress your family and friends! You’ll learn
how to control characters, objects and outcomes in your
game, then increase the difficulty level and add more features.
Graphics design and graphics animation topics also will be
covered. Learn how to design your own version of popular
video games. The Scratch program is a free online download,
so students can play and improve, or create more video
games at home!

our future brighter. You will also have fun learning about
mechanical building concepts.

Make your very own creatures and make them look like they’re
running around the room in this wild stop-motion animation
camp! After designing and creating your cardboard creatures,
you and your group will write the story, film your movies, and
add your own voice-overs and sound effects in this one-of-akind camp where your creatures can go anywhere you go.

Ocean Odyssey 9–11 years
In this science-of-the-sea class you will dive into the fascinating
lives of ocean animals like plankton, jellyfish, whales and
sharks. Create an aqua scope and explore the world of
tidepool treasures. Build your own ocean and unlock the
mysteries of undersea communication with whales. We will
explore ocean etiquette, environmental issues, and the impact
of oceans on global temperatures.
Students will be going to Birch Aquarium on Thursday, July 10.
Parent volunteers will be needed for transportation to and from
the aquarium. Parents, please let us know on the first day of
camp if you are interested in driving students.

Minecraft Designers
10–13 years
If you love the game Minecraft, but always wanted to design
characters and buildings for your game, this class is for you!
Learn the basics of creating 3D modeling using a new industry
grade software to design your very own characters and import
them into your favorite Minecraft games. Students must have
Minecraft at home to import characters and a parent email
address is required to create student accounts. Designer
curriculum is compatible with any desktop (and laptop) version
of Minecraft software that is for a PC or Mac computer. It is not
compatible with Xbox 360 and mobile tablets/phones.

To get the most out of your creativity and imagination,
you need to learn the techniques and tricks that will make
your drawings and paintings even more fantastic! Explore
composition, color and perspective using different media and

drawing, abstract painting and cartooning. Learn the
techniques and express yourself!

Sewing Techniques for Teens

Are you interested in fashion and trends? Do you enjoy sewing
clothes or making alterations to turn an existing garment into
something trendy? Whether this is the first time you pick up a
needle and thread, or you’re already familiar with a sewing
machine, this class is for you!
This course will start you on your way as a fashionista, from
learning about patterns, picking fabric and creating unique
designs with detail and trim to make your one-of-a-kind
product. We have a limited number of sewing machines, so if
you are able to bring one, we would appreciate it.

Program is for those who love animals and want to learn all
about the world of veterinary medicine! In this Jr. version of Vet
Tech, you will discover what it takes to become a veterinarian,
learn how to use the tools of the trade using live animals, and
increase your own pet’s well-being. This is a hands-on class
with real world practices. Please DO NOT sign up your child for

Safety Awareness 10–13 years
Who will survive? YOU will after taking survivor camp! Learn
how to work with knots and ropes, build natural shelters, purify
water, create fire, find food in the wild, and master a variety of
wilderness skills.
Wilderness skills help people survive in the outdoors and
weather in the aftermath of natural disasters. You’ll learn how
to reduce your risk of getting lost and how to react effectively
with lifesaving actions if you have a backcountry emergency.

equipment.

We know you love to play with LEGO® bricks and we know
you can create incredible worlds. Now it’s time to bring those

set with LEGO® characters for a movie they storyboard, write,
shoot, and voice-over in age-appropriate groups. All flix

informative camp will teach you all of the ins and outs of
babysitting. Learn:
• The roles and responsibilities of being a great babysitter
• How to prevent injuries and what to do in case of
emergencies
• How to prevent problem behavior
• How to set up your own babysitting business
In addition, you will get CPR and first-aid certification. Hands-on
teaching and role-playing will be used throughout the week.

Poppies & Wildflowers: Lancaster Poppy Festival & Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve

Everyone will be celebrating California’s state flower at the annual Poppy Festival in Lancaster. Favorite
attractions include over 200 unique fine arts and crafts vendors, a floral and farmers’ market, vibrant wildflower
artwork, entertainment and much more! Enjoy a no-host lunch at the festival. Following, we will visit the Antelope
Valley Poppy Reserve and Visitor Center, an area established to protect and perpetuate outstanding displays of
native wildflowers—especially poppies! NOTE: While this is usually a great time to see brilliant wildflower colors,
we’ll still keep our fingers crossed as poppies and wildflowers are extremely fragile and temperamental blooms!

the house, which contains the original furnishings and learn about its history, details of the architecture and

Self-Realization Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades–its lovely gardens and natural spring-fed lake welcome people
from around the world. There will be time to enjoy a leisurely no-host lunch and browsing at the Malibu Country
Mart–a pleasantly informal, yet trendy outdoor shopping and dining complex.
