Division of Student Affairs Mission
The Division of Student Affairs facilitates learning and prepares students for success in our multi-cultural and
increasingly global society and work force. We will accomplish our mission by a.) providing and cocreating programs, services, systems, facilities and safe environments that foster learning and personal
development; b.) collaborating with and facilitating relationships between students and among students,
faculty, staff and others from the university and community to integrate curricular and co-curricular
experiences; and c.) leveraging the expertise within student affairs to assist faculty, staff and students in
areas of strength such as interpersonal and cultural competence; civic engagement, community and
leadership development; workforce and career development; public health and safety.
JOB SUMMARY
As a member of the Student Affairs Division and the Department of Student Life, the person filling this
position will contribute to the mission by working directly with each UMBC Greek chapter and four
Greek Councils in the following ways: attends to academic success and effectiveness, participates in
weekly meetings, oversees the fundraising and philanthropic efforts, plans leadership retreats and
workshops, oversees recruitment efforts, builds relationships with advisors and national contacts, advises
Greek committees to ensure organizational success, manages the accreditation process, and performs
other duties as assigned.
PRIMARY DUTIES
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
§
Serve as primary Advisor to all Greek Life student leaders;
§
Advise all governing councils (Interfraternity Council (IFC), National Pan-Hellenic
Council (NPHC), Pan Hellenic Association (PHA), Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), which
requires attendance at weekly Executive Board meetings and regular council meetings;

Coordinate Chapter Presidents’ meetings which focus on educational programming and
personal development;
§
Plan and coordinate Greek community and executive board retreats, trainings and Greek
speaker series;
§
Chair the Expansion Committee; evaluate the Greek community in an on-going way to
determine next steps for growth/management of the community; make recommendations to the
Director of Student Life regarding expansion;
§
Responsible for annual Greek events including, but not limited to, Greek Week, Greek
Awards, Philanthropy Carnival, Greek Retreat, Town Hall;
§
Advise and support Greek Chapters and Councils to implement successful programs;
§
Oversee and assist with the coordination of all membership recruitment activities for all
councils;
§
Develop and maintain relationship with advisors and national/international
staff/volunteers for each organization;
§
Lead efforts to write, review, and implement Greek life policies and procedures in
conjunction with students and staff in Student Life;
§
Develop partnerships and opportunities for the Greek Community to program with other
campus constituencies;
§
Help Greek Life at UMBC grow to be a thriving community and become an integral part
of campus life;
§
Maintain and update records of membership in Greek organizations, including, but not
limited to, academic records;
§
Oversee and manage Greek Life budgets, including council and Greek Coordinator
operating budgets while working with the Student Affairs Business Services Center staff;
§
Evaluate and assess current programs and needs of the Greek community;
§
Recognize and celebrate the successes of the Greek community;
§
Participate in institutional programs such as Admissions programs, Welcome Week,
Family Weekend, Homecoming, Winter Welcome Week, Quadmania, CelebratingOrgs, and
Orientation Days;
§
Attend standing meetings, weekly department staff meeting, supervisory meetings, and
divisional meetings as appropriate; and
§
Perform other duties as assigned.
Note:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master's degree in College Student Development or related field.
Experience: One year experience in Greek Life/Student Activities/Student Life or related field.
One year experience with direct fraternity and sorority advising preferred.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of college student development principles and
assessment practices. Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills essential.
