WHAT IT IS
Organization Mandate
Minwaashin Lodge provides a range of programs and services to First
Nations, Inuit and Métis women and children who are survivors of
domestic and other forms of violence. We also have a first-stage shelter
that provides safe shelter to abused or homeless women and children.
Working within a traditional healing model we deal with the effects of
poverty, addictions, sexual abuse, violence, residential school and intergenerational trauma.

Employment Readiness Program - Modeled on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, a traditional,
Aboriginal program to find meaningful work and/or access training. Women develop an
education/career plan and explore going back to school, upgrading, training, confidence building and
career guidance. Individual and group work with job seekers.

Courage To Soar Program - For Aboriginal women who are survivors/at risk of domestic violence and
require support to identify practical, holistic steps to education and training opportunities and career
options. It offers training and career development opportunities in Office Administration. Willis
College includes a 4-week work experience component.
Eligibility Criteria: First Nations, Inuit or Métis women, over 18 years of age.

ensure a holistic approach is used as part of the healing journey.

Culture Program - The Elders tell us that, “Everything You Need is in Your Culture”, we strongly believe
this and have modeled our Culture Program around that philosophy. The Culture program provides a
safe place where women can start on their healing journeys, reclaim their Aboriginal identity, develop
confidence and cultural & leadership skills.

Oshki Kizis Lodge - Shelter for Women and Children - A 21-bed shelter for First Nations, Inuit, and
Métis women and children who are fleeing abuse or at risk.

Sacred Child Program - Ages 0-6, cultural family activities, parenting/care-taking skills, child
development, education and prevention of family violence, Children’s Aid Society access visits,
nutrition, parental respite, home visits, prenatal and individual support.

Transitional Support and Housing Program - Advocacy to women and children exiting our shelter to
find and maintain housing, access income, accompaniment to court, lawyer’s appointments, medical
appointments, Children’s Aid Society and/or police station, safety planning, referrals and advocacy.
