Goaltending School The Rinx is now offering a weekly goaltending school at Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, which will run for eleven weeks this Spring. Goaltending Coach Mike Orth, will be heading up the instruction. Mike and his staff will break down each skill set you will learn, with personal instruction and attention to each participant. The school is open to all ages and skill levels, and is LIMITED to 20 participants. If you are looking to improve on your skating, Goaltending technique and movements, this is the school for you. Each hour and half session will begin with goalie specific power skating, which then leads to goalie movement and technique, through the use of our staff of Goalie Coaches and shooters. Dates: Saturdays April 18th – June 27th Time: 3:15pm – 4:45pm Tuition: Resident Block (11 sessions) $300 / Drop in $30 Non-Resident Block (11 sessions) $350 / Drop in $35 Program Lesson Plan Includes: Skating/Crease Movement- Fundamentals such as forward and backward skating, c-pushes, t-pushes, shuffles, and butterfly slides. Tracking the Puck- Goaltender will be put in different situational drills to learn to track the puck, such as long shots, short shots, wrist shots, breakaways, high and low shots, screen shots, deflection shots. These drills will be conducted with players, as well as the Boni puck shooting machine. Angles- Drills will be conducted to help the goaltender learn find and hold the correct angles inside and outside the crease. Rebound Control- Fundamentals such as catching the puck with the glove, deflecting the puck to the corner with the blocker, catching the puck in the upper body area, and using the stick to deflect the puck to the corners on low shots. Conditioning- Drills with and without the puck will be conducted to allow the goaltender to work on in-game conditioning skills.
