The Commissioner for Political Affairs met with the Newly Elected Chairperson
of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption (AU-ABC)

the African Union (AU) met with the
newly elected Chairperson of the
African Union Advisory Board on
Corruption, H.E. Mr. Daniel Batidam
who was accompanied by Dr.
Bourguele Bhare Alfred, the AUABC’s Senior Policy Officer for
Political and Legal Matters.
During the meeting, Commissioner
Abdullahi welcomed the AU-ABC’s Delegation to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She
congratulated Mr.Batidamon hiselection as the Chairperson of the continental anticorruption body. Dr. Abdullahi and her team briefed the Delegation on the mandate
of the Department of Political Affairs of the African Union Commission and the
African Governance Architecture and its Platform.
According to the Commissioner, “a successful fight against corruption in Africa is a
pre-requisite condition for the accomplishment of the African Development Agenda
2063”. Based on this conclusion, the meeting extensively discussed the challenge of
corruption on the continent and its effects on development in AU Member States. It
also highlighted recommendations on how the AU-ABC can partner with relevant
stakeholders on democratic governance in the fight against corruption and other
related offences in Member states.
Finally, the two organs of the African Unionagreed on how to improve their working
relationship in the fight against corruption in Africa.
