As primary contact health care professionals, chiropractors have
a comprehensive understanding of the body, enabling them to
diagnose and treat, and when necessary refer patients to other
health care professionals. They are musculoskeletal experts,
managing disorders related to the spine, nervous system and joints.
The health of their patients is enhanced through the use of the
chiropractic adjustment and related therapies.
A career in chiropractic may involve private practice or work within
interprofessional settings. Upon graduation, there are a number

Our Program
Our Program
The undergraduate curriculum is a rigorous 4200+ hours providing
the in depth knowledge required to develop competent and successful
chiropractors. The first two years of the curriculum emphasize the
foundational courses in the biological sciences (anatomy, pathology,
physiology, microbiology, etc.). Beginning in Year I, and becoming the
emphasis of the program in Year III and IV, are the professional courses
in chiropractic studies, psychomotor skills, clinical education, and the
related health professional courses (business, jurisprudence, ethics and
professionalism, research, etc.)
Integrative Curriculum
To comprehend the diagnosis and treatment of clinical conditions, it is
necessary for the student to have a solid understanding of the sciences
that apply. As such, the modular system sequences academic content
in a manner that is conducive to this type of knowledge building.
Modules consist of individual courses. Faculty work closely together to
coordinate content ensuring a comprehensive and complete knowledge
transfer for each area. Our program combines lectures and labs with
team based learning and practice based case studies. Web resources
and technologies are used to complement face to face sessions. This
approach fosters a smooth transition from basic academic knowledge
into problem solving for the purpose of diagnosis and the appropriate
clinical treatment and management of patients’ conditions.
Kim Ross, BSc, MSc, DC, PhD
Director of Education, Year I
“I enjoy the students at CMCC. They are
fun to lecture, ask challenging questions,
and appreciate the work that goes
into preparing them to be competent
chiropractors. CMCC uses a rigorous
interview process and the result is a lively,
engaged student body.”

Our Clinics
Our Clinics
Hands-on. Interactive. Engaging.
Following their academic preparation, training in technique and clinic observation
requirements, Year IV students are ready to apply their knowledge as chiropractic
interns working in community based clinical settings. They assume responsibility
for patient care under the supervision of clinical faculty in two six month rotations.
CMCC provides clinical experience in a variety of environments to enhance clinical
and interprofessional skills in preparation for private practice. CMCC’s clinics
have been developed in collaborative multidisciplinary environments such as
community health centres, a native health centre, a rehabilitation hospital, a
hospital based Academic Family Health Team, and treatment centres for special
needs populations to enhance clinical and interprofessional skills. Treating in
these clinics under the supervision of experienced, specialty trained faculty
provides students with real life examples of practice models.
Throughout the academic year, interns also complete rotations in the clinical
laboratory, diagnostic imaging and interpretation clerkships, rehabilitation and
x-ray interpretation, and participate in community outreach.
In preparation for their professional lives after graduation, interns attend a
capstone health care management course wherein they have the opportunity
to apply their developing business acumen. This is accomplished by testing
their entrepreneurial skill set, further developing their leadership skills and,
from the course content and professional practice best practices, developing a
comprehensive business plan which could be used to solicit a business loan. The
unique course is designed to allow interns to reflect on how and where they wish
to establish their professional practice and also to determine where they may
need to enhance their skills in advance of making such a significant professional
decision.
Towards the end of their internship year, interns may also have an opportunity to
participate in a preceptorship and to work alongside a chiropractor approved for
CMCC’s Community Based Clinical Education Program in one of many provinces
across Canada.

For those with a greater interest in pursuing advanced scholarly work, an
elective research project is offered under the supervision of a CMCC faculty
member in one of CMCC’s advanced research facilities. CMCC has several
specialized laboratories including biomechanics and elastography, tissue
testing, materials and fabrication, neurophysiology, cellular and molecular
biology and histology.
CMCC student investigations have achieved outstanding success at
international research competitions; in 2011, CMCC student investigators
won three of four research awards for students at the World Federation of
Chiropractic Congress in Brazil.

The OSAP default rate for CMCC students is 0%.
Student Performance Indicators
CMCC is proud of the quality of its students, the
reputation of its faculty and staff, and the innovative
design of its curriculum. These qualities are
reflected in the very high percentage of students
entering the program who graduate (an average of
89 per cent over the last five years) and the ratio of
those who enter active practice. In the most recent
survey completed on behalf of the Government
of Ontario, over 95 per cent had begun practicing
within six months of graduation. Over the past 15
years, 96 per cent of CMCC students have passed
the Canadian Chiropractic Examining Board (CCEB)
examinations and are well prepared for practice.
Future Prospects
Chiropractic is one of the fastest growing
professions in Canada. According to Human
Resources and Social Development Canada, the
current employment prospects for chiropractors
are good across the country and particularly strong
in western Canada. There are many opportunities
for chiropractors to utilize their professional
health care credentials in today’s society. The
most common environment is private practice,
frequently as sole proprietor or as an associate.
The increase in the number of multidisciplinary
health care facilities in Canada has led to new
opportunities for chiropractors to collaborate in
providing interprofessional care with other health
care professionals. There are also a small number
of chiropractors working in hospitals and other
institutions. CMCC is proud that it has alumni active
in 36 countries.
