Housing Authority’s Ross to retire, successor hired
After serving as executive director of the Housing Authority of Paducah for nearly 13 years, Cal Ross says he
plans to retire at the end of April. Ross says he will remain employed in a limited capacity over the next year to
assist with the transition period for the new executive director, Melissa Yates.
The Housing Authority of Paducah Board of Commissioners approved
hiring Melissa Yates as the new executive director during the board's
March 19 meeting. She plans to begin her position with the Housing
Authority on May 1.
Yates, who is currently a partner at the law firm of Denton & Keuler
LLP, moved to Paducah after she graduated from Southern Illinois
University School of Law in 2001. She has served as legal counsel to
the Housing Authority since 2003. Her private practice experience
focused on public housing issues and regulatory matters with the United
States Department of Housing and Urban Development and the
Kentucky Public Service Commission.
"Safe, affordable housing is the cornerstone of any strong community. I
believe the Housing Authority of Paducah is vital to the well-being of
the city of Paducah," she said.
"I am excited and honored to be able to assist in the mission of providing quality housing opportunities to
qualified individuals and families within our community."
Reflecting on his years with the Housing Authority of Paducah, Ross said, "While I would say I am saddened to
leave because I truly love my job, I take great pride in the work we have accomplished in my time as the
executive director. I am particularly proud of the creation and sale of 24 houses to low-income families and the
building of 28 elder apartments in the H.C. Mathis Development."
Prior to his service with the Housing Authority, Ross worked for approximately 35 years for the United States
Department of Housing & Urban Development.
"Cal Ross has provided excellent steering and management of the Housing Authority during his almost 13 years
here. His dedication to the Housing Authority has brought about great improvements here and I believe those
efforts will help make the transition seamless," said Edward Narozniak, who serves as chairman of the Housing
Authority Board of Commissioners.
