Archdiocese
Trained Communion Ministers Needed
Children's Hospitals of Minnesota are in need of trained Communion Ministers to offer Communion to patients and their
families. If you are a trained Communion Minister and feel
called to volunteer at either the St. Paul or Minneapolis campuses, contact Deacon Jim Saumweber at 220-7185 or
[email protected]. Some additional training is required. Thank you for considering this ministry!
Knights of Columbus
Next Meeting - May 5
The next meeting will be at St Joseph’s Church in West St.
Paul on May 5th in the Nursery at 7:30pm. We will be discussing the State Convention, Wakota Lifecare Benefit, Elections, Tootsie Roll Drive, Star Council Award, Night at the Fire
Pit with the MYO, Raffle ticket sales, highway trash cleanup
and the Habitat for Humanity Project. We are doing great
things for the community! Come and get involved with our
council. If you are interested in joining the Knights, call John
Rutz at 492-7823.
Faith Formation
A.D. Catholic Viewer's Guide by Veronica Burchard will be a
great help in making the most of A.D. The Bible Continues, a
new TV series now showing on NBC. Books are available from
Nativity for the discounted price of $12. Contact Randy
Mueller to pick up your copy from the Parish Office at 6965401 or [email protected]. For more information, visit
goo.gl/g9Iai4.
This past Saturday, May 2, Archbishop Nienstedt ordained a
new class of transitional deacons for our
Archdiocese, including the now-Deacon Michael McClellan, who has served our parish
the last few years as part of his seminary
formation in preparation for the priesthood.
Deacon Michael will be preaching at the
9:30 and 11am masses next Sunday, May
10 (Mother’s Day!) in thanksgiving to God
for his ordination to the Diaconate.
His classmate and also newly-ordained
Deacon Michael Daly is a Nativity parishioner, and as such he
will be preaching at the 9:30 and 11am
masses this Sunday. I asked Michael to
share a bit about his experience discerning
God’s call for him, which you’ll find below.
We are very proud of both Deacons and are
grateful for their continued service to our
church.
During Lent, I urged you to consider
dedicating yourself to one hour of weekly
prayer in Nativity’s Perpetual Adoration
Chapel. Thank you to those who answered
the call! I encourage you all to continue the same spirit of
prayerfulness in the Easter season and beyond.
There are still a few hours in need of adorers. The following
hours currently have no adorers scheduled:
-Sunday 2-3pm
-Monday 3-4pm
-Tuesday noon-1pm
-Thursday 7-8am
-Saturday 2-3am, 4-5am
If interested in signing up to become a regular adorer or dedicated substitute, contact Jim at [email protected].
By committing yourself to weekly prayer in the presence of
the Blessed Sacrament, you will begin to fully open yourself
to the Lord and allow Him to accomplish what He wills in your
life.
-Fr. Patrick
Hail Nativity! My name is Michael Daly. I was born in Rochester, MN and grew up in St. Paul. I am the third of four children with loving parents, Peter and LuLu. I attended Highland Catholic grade school, Saint Thomas Academy, and the
University of Notre Dame. I grew up playing football, hockey
and lacrosse and enjoying the outdoors,
especially at the cabin up north.
Since I was 11 years old, my family frequently traveled on medical missions to the
Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos orphanage
in Honduras. I was on track for medical
school until the Lord called me to be his
priest while working with the Missionaries of
Charity in Calcutta, India during college. It
was through my repeated encounters with
Jesus in the Eucharist as well as Jesus in
the poor that I heard his call. Please pray for me and all
those being ordained, and know of my continual prayers!
Pastoral Care
Grief Group - Thursday, May 7 ~9-10am (after 8:15 mass)
Nativity hosts a monthly group to support anyone who has
suffered loss of someone or something of value. Grief is individual but is often eased with sharing your experiences with
others. We typically meet the First Thursday of each month
September-June in the Bride’s Room.
Cerenity Marian Open House - Sunday, May 3 from 1-3:30pm
Senior living campus tours and information, including a Virtual
Dementia Tour. Experience what it is like to live with memory
loss. Reserve a spot by calling 793-2100. We are located at
200 Earl Street, St Paul, 55106.
Nativity and the Wilder foundation will be co-hosting a 6-week
caregiver series entitled Powerful Tools for Caregivers beginning Wednesday, May 20 and continuing every Wednesday
through June 24 from 1:30-3:30pm in Steiner Hall. Tickets
are $40 and must be purchased ahead from Wilder by contacting [email protected] or 280-CARE (2273).
Educational Series on Grief - May 20
All are welcome to learn the intimate dynamics of grief from
Brenda DeMotte, MSW, LICSW, as she debunks the Myths of
Grief on Wednesday, May 20 from 7-8pm in Steiner Hall.
Learn how to help yourself and better understand others as
they grieve.
Brenda DeMotte is a Licensed Social Worker and the director of Professional Counseling & Grief Services. She has
extensive experience in the area of grief and loss, and holds a
Master’s Degree in Social Work in addition to Grief Therapy
and Mortuary Science degrees.
Catholic Kids’ Camp
Nativity is again sponsoring its very own
Catholic Kids Camp this summer. This
year’s theme is “Set Sail with the Holy
Trinity!” Please join us June 22-26 for a
week of songs, crafts, snacks and fun
activities as we learn about St. Patrick
and the Holy Trinity. Cost is $50/child
or $135/family. Camp is open to all
children entering kindergarten through
fifth grade. The registration form, as well as additional information, is available on the parish section of the website under “Bulletin and Forms.” Registration deadline is May
8. Please contact Jill Dobie at [email protected] or

…in Gratitude
“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he
has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” - Epictetus
Quickly, name three things for which you are thankful. Don’t
think about it – just do it!
If you’re like most people, you immediately think of friends,
family, health, or job. Can you name ten things right now?
Twenty? A smile or word of kindness? A safe arrival? A short
line at the ATM? Do you thank God for every little thing?
Do you thank him every day?
Scientific studies have shown the many positive effects of
practicing an attitude of gratitude: better physical health, improved self-esteem, and increased mental strength – even
better sleep!
Gratitude is a gift in itself!
All good things come from God –
can we practice finding the good?
This week, flex your gratitude muscle. Each day, thank God for
three things – and no repeats!
Jesus, help me recognize my many blessings.
