This past Saturday, May 2, Archbishop Nienstedt ordained a new class of transitional deacons for our Archdiocese, including the now-Deacon Michael McClellan, who has served our parish the last few years as part of his seminary formation in preparation for the priesthood. Deacon Michael will be preaching at the 9:30 and 11am masses next Sunday, May 10 (Mother’s Day!) in thanksgiving to God for his ordination to the Diaconate. His classmate and also newly-ordained Deacon Michael Daly is a Nativity parishioner, and as such he will be preaching at the 9:30 and 11am masses this Sunday. I asked Michael to share a bit about his experience discerning God’s call for him, which you’ll find below. We are very proud of both Deacons and are grateful for their continued service to our church. During Lent, I urged you to consider dedicating yourself to one hour of weekly prayer in Nativity’s Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Thank you to those who answered the call! I encourage you all to continue the same spirit of prayerfulness in the Easter season and beyond. There are still a few hours in need of adorers. The following hours currently have no adorers scheduled: -Sunday 2-3pm -Monday 3-4pm -Tuesday noon-1pm -Thursday 7-8am -Saturday 2-3am, 4-5am If interested in signing up to become a regular adorer or dedicated substitute, contact Jim at [email protected]. By committing yourself to weekly prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, you will begin to fully open yourself to the Lord and allow Him to accomplish what He wills in your life. -Fr. Patrick Hail Nativity! My name is Michael Daly. I was born in Rochester, MN and grew up in St. Paul. I am the third of four children with loving parents, Peter and LuLu. I attended Highland Catholic grade school, Saint Thomas Academy, and the University of Notre Dame. I grew up playing football, hockey and lacrosse and enjoying the outdoors, especially at the cabin up north. Since I was 11 years old, my family frequently traveled on medical missions to the Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos orphanage in Honduras. I was on track for medical school until the Lord called me to be his priest while working with the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India during college. It was through my repeated encounters with Jesus in the Eucharist as well as Jesus in the poor that I heard his call. Please pray for me and all those being ordained, and know of my continual prayers! Don’t think about it – just do it! If you’re like most people, you immediately think of friends, family, health, or job. Can you name ten things right now? Twenty? A smile or word of kindness? A safe arrival? A short line at the ATM? Do you thank God for every little thing? Do you thank him every day? Scientific studies have shown the many positive effects of practicing an attitude of gratitude: better physical health, improved self-esteem, and increased mental strength – even better sleep! Gratitude is a gift in itself! All good things come from God – can we practice finding the good? This week, flex your gratitude muscle. Each day, thank God for three things – and no repeats! Jesus, help me recognize my many blessings.
