Stanford Avenue at Prior Avenue South • St. Paul, MN 55105 www.nativity-mn.org • (651) 696-5401 • [email protected] AT THE NAME OF JESUS EVERY KNEE SHOULD BEND -PHILIPPIANS 2:10 MARCH 29, 2015 - PASSION SUNDAY Respect Life Knights of Columbus 40 Days for Life O, Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life. Look down, O Mother, upon the vast number of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Grant that all who believe in your son may proclaim the Gospel of Life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebrating it with gratitude throughout their lives, and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely. May we build, together with all people of good will, a civilization of truth and love, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life. Amen The next meeting will be at St Joseph’s Church in West St Paul on April 7 in the Great Room at 7:30pm. We will be discussing the State Convention, Wakota Lifecare Benefit, Elections, Tootsie Roll Drive, Star Council Award, Night at the Fire Pit with the MYO, raffle ticket sales, and the Habitat for Humanity Project. Thank you to all who participated in 40 Days for Life this Spring. Your prayers, outreach & witness are making a difference in the lives of many. God Bless you all! We are over 200 men strong. We are doing great things for the community. Come and get involved with our council. If you are interested in joining the Knights, call John Rutz at 492-7823. “For gracious and merciful is He, slow to anger, rich in kindness.” Have you committed to turn? Take one small action this week that will allow some of His Light to cross your path. This week, before you put your feet on the floor each morning can you ask God to guide those feet? Perhaps you will encounter a difficult relative at Easter dinner? Can you resolve to put a smile on your face for that person? Headed out of town for spring break? Can you take a few minutes to learn about the people that serve you on vacation? Possibly contribute the cost of a vacation dinner to a charity that serves that community? If it’s not this week – then turn next week –or the week after that... He is always waiting. He is always there. Turn. Jesus, help me to seek your light. Want to go deeper? Search YouTube for “Matt Maher Turn Around” to hear the inspiration for the Turn series. Or search “Matt Maher playlist” to be uplifted as you do some spring cleaning or yard work. School Play From the Hip Congratulations to the cast, crew and directors of this year's 7th and 8th grade performance of Disney’s Peter Pan, Jr! The cast brought this musical production to life by their wonderful singing and acting. A special thank you to Mrs. Suzanne Graff Gomes, Director; Miss Jay Korte, Assistant Director; Mrs. Jen Dusek and Mr. Michael Loonan, Music Directors; Mr. Gary Iverson, Ms. Becky Olson Metzger, Mr. Dan Anderson, Mr. Mark Hennessey, Mr. Ben Green, Crew Directors; Miss Katelyn Jaksha, High School Assistant Director. To all of the parents who gave of their time and talents with sets, costumes, make-up, as hallway chaperones, ticket, and concession sales. Your dedication and hard work created a wonderful theatrical performance as well as treasured memories for our students. Thank you! Easter Hospitality As we approach the Triduum and Easter week, we are aware of Christ’s love and invitation to us all. Easter is a time when Nativity has many visitors and returning Catholics. Please be sure to be as welcoming as Christ: smile, make eye contact, move to the center of the pew, and welcome visitors. Invite them back to future masses. Your friendly, warm response will mirror Christ’s love and grace to new and returning Catholics. Adoration This Lent, I urge you to consider dedicating yourself to one hour of weekly prayer in Nativity’s Perpetual Adoration Chapel. By committing yourself to weekly prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, you will begin to fully open yourself to the Lord and allow Him to accomplish what He wills in your life. So, please make this Lent different from any other Lent, so as to experience a more profound Triduum and Easter that will carry through to a permanent change in your spiritual life. Fr. Patrick The gold squares identify those times when only one person is spending time with our Lord. The red squares indicates hours currently without Adorers. If interested in signing up to become a regular adorer or dedicated substitute, contact Jim at [email protected]. Seven of Nativity’s RCIA candidates are prayerfully awaiting their Reception into the Catholic Church at our Easter Vigil this Saturday, April 4. After their Profession of Faith, they will be Confirmed as Catholics and then receive their First Holy Communion. Through God’s grace and providence there are also three Elect in this years’ RCIA process that will be baptized and confirmed and will then join us at the altar for their First Communion at that same Easter Vigil. In keeping with the tradition of the early Church in the Mediterranean world the Easter Vigil has again (since the Second Vatican Council) become the prime time when converts celebrate these Sacraments of Initiation and join us for the first time at the altar to receive the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. As Christians who will renew our Baptismal Vows during the Easter Masses, let us all keep these women and men in our prayers during this Holy Week, “...When Christians everywhere, washed clean of sin and freed from all defilement, are restored to grace and grow together in holiness” (from the Exultet which is sung during the Easter Vigil liturgy). Educational Series on Grief - April 8, May 20 All are welcome to learn the intimate dynamics of grief from Brenda DeMotte, MSW, LICSW, as she debunks the Myths of Grief April 8 from 7-8pm in Steiner Hall. She has extensive experience in the area of grief and loss, and holds degrees in Grief Therapy and Mortuary Science and a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Brenda will also be speaking May 20 on Moving from Stress to Balance. Grief Group - April 9 (NOT April 2) Nativity of Our Lord Church hosts a monthly group to support anyone who has suffered loss of someone or something of value. Food Drive The March Food Drive at Nativity is off to a great start, as we have collected 1,870 pounds of food and $3,260 in cash donations so far. Food can be dropped off at the church and school during the week. If you prefer to make a cash donation, checks should be made payable to Keystone Community Services with "food shelf" in the memo section. Together we can surpass last year's total of over 2,000 lbs of food. Thank you for your generosity! Wedding Banns The following couple is preparing for the sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Please keep them in your prayers. Anne Yetzer & Dan Crain Saturday, April 18 To be married at Nativity, the bride, groom, or one of the parents must be an active, registered parishioner for at least six months prior to scheduling a wedding at Nativity. Daily Reflections Two great resources to help deepen Lenten reflection are now available online: 1. Catholic speaker Matthew Kelly is offering an app and email entitled Best Lent Ever, which is a program built to explain the genius of Catholicism. Visit BestLentEver.com or follow the link on the parish website. 2. Fr. Robert Barron of the Archdiocese of Chicago is offering daily uplifting spiritual reflections via email through his ministry at WordOnFire.org. Music Ministry The Singers MN Choral Artists Concert - April 12 For the first time in the ensemble’s history, The Singers present a concert of music solely from the Renaissance era entitled Underground Renaissance. As the political and religious winds changed rapidly throughout the Tudor Era, William Byrd composed his Mass for Four Voices late in life after a conversion to the Catholic Church, all the while serving the Protestant Queen Elizabeth I. The Singers also will share portions of The Triumphs of Oriana, a 1601 madrigal collection assembled by THOMAS MORLEY in the Queen’s honor. If you have not made your contribution to the 2015 CSA, please consider doing so today. Pledge envelopes are available in each pew. The Appeal funds services that no one parish or individual can support alone. These services must go on throughout these troubled times in our Archdiocese. And, when our parish reaches its goal, 25% of all funds received will be returned for use to support ministries in our parish. Please give generously to help share the message of salvation throughout our local church and beyond. For a description of CSA-designated ministries, or to give online, please visit the new Catholic Services Appeal Foundation website at www.csafspm.org. Nativity Parish Directories are available for all individuals and households who sat for directory photographs. School families who sat for directory photographs may pick up directories at the school front office. All others who sat for directory photographs may pick up directories in the church vestibule. (Apologies for the unavailability of directories at last weekend’s masses!) A limited number of directories are available at the Lannan Center Parish Office, on a first-come, firstserved basis, for parishioners who were not photographed. Directory questions?
