Low Gluten Hosts – We want all of our
parishioners to know that we have low gluten hosts
available for those who follow a gluten sensitive
diet. If receiving low gluten is helpful to you please
sit on the side of the Church where you see the
Blessed Mother statue. When it is time for
Communion please go to the wine minister closest
to the Eucharistic Chapel (where you see the stained
glass windows). It would be very convenient for
you if you sit in the chairs in the front of the church
so that you have easy access to this minister. Our
extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are
aware of this procedure and are more than happy to
accommodate your need. May we all be blessed by
the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

VOCATION PRAYER CHALICE
Consecrate Them
in the Truth
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Dear Heavenly Father, I believe that you are
the Way, the Truth and the Life. You alone love
me for who I truly am and for what I am able to
become. Though I make repeated mistakes,
you continually offer me new opportunities to
grow every moment of the day.
Your Son lived the Way that I must choose if
I'm to be transformed and to fully develop my
potential. His Way is the only path that leads to
true personhood.
Attuned to your Truth, Father, I am capable of
leading a wholesome and worthwhile life. The
depth of my service to others is dependent on
my grasp of your Truth.
May your Spirit overflow into my life that I may
have your Life to the full. Give me the strength
and the courage to be all that I can be and not
to settle for less.
Realizing that my life is a precious gift from
you, may I integrate Your Way, Your Truth and
Your Life, and make it my own. Amen.
Thank you
for praying for vocations.

This Sunday St. John continues his
theology of God and love. “God is love and
whoever remains in love remains in God and
God in him.”
The Gospel offers evidence of the
blessings and woes of the Church’s existence.
The prayer of Jesus is not only a prayer for a
community of faith many centuries ago but also
the prayer of Christ for the Church today, for
the members of our parish at Sacred Heart
whom the Holy Spirit has brought together for
this Mass.
“Lord, may we be “consecrated to the
truth” as we are sent forth into the world to
bring others to faith in Jesus.”

MAY 16 – MAY 17 2015
SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
ISN’T KNOWLEDGE A WONDERFUL THING!! “Consecrate them in truth.” We’ve heard the word “consecrate” before:
Consecrating the Eucharist is to take simple
bread and through the gift of the Holy Spirit
that simple bread becomes the Body of Christ.
In our Gospel today we encounter the words of
Jesus in prayer to His Father asking for unity
among His followers, protection for them and
no further loss such as they experienced with
Judas. His prayer continues and then He asks
that they be consecrated in truth.
To be consecrated means to be set aside for
a divine purpose. The purpose of the apostles
was to proclaim Jesus to all the ends of the
earth. “Your word is truth” and they were being
consecrated to that truth. Wow! What a
calling! Living in the truth of the Word of God
is what all of us are called to as Christians.
What does that look like?
Let’s take a look at our other two readings
from this seventh Sunday of the Easter Season
and uncover more information. In our first
reading from the Acts of the Apostles we find
our apostles attempting to figure out their next
steps after the betrayal of Judas. How many of
us have traveled this road – betrayal or
abandonment of a significant person in our
lives and attempting to go on. The faith of the
Apostles brings them to a decision that Judas
must be replaced by a faith-filled person who
had experienced the same faith journey as the
rest of the apostles. They mutually agreed
upon the requirements of the person they were
looking for and then they committed time in
prayer. Only after that did they choose
Matthias. In our second reading we hear from
the first letter of St. John where we are
instructed to live in love with one another. The
final statement in this reading could keep us in
prayer for the rest of our lives. “God is love,
and whoever remains in love remains in God
and God in him.”
Could you imagine starting everyday with this
verse as part of your morning prayer? Perhaps
it would change our everyday approach to all
people and events in that day. With that
thought in mind let’s loop back to our first
reading where the apostles chose Matthias.
Did you ever consider the other guy? What
was his reaction to not being chosen as one of
the twelve? This man, who also had the name
of Judas or Barsabbas, was certainly a wellrespected man and a man of faith but was not
chosen. So don’t you wonder how he handled
it just so we could learn from him within the
Word of God? All of us have walked these
miles, it’s good to have a role model within
scripture to look to when handling
disappointments. Well, he stayed steadfast in
his faith and in his commitment to the Word of
God.
Fifteen chapters later in the same book of
scripture “The Acts of the Apostles” we find out
that Barsabbas was chosen for another
mission. He was sent to Antioch to help St.
Paul. “Then the apostles and elders, with the
whole church, decided to choose some of their
own men and send them to Antioch with Paul
and Barnabas. They chose Judas (called
Barsabbas) and Silas, men who were leaders
among the believers.”
Perhaps living in the truth looks like this:
Choosing love every day to the best of our
ability. Being confident that in all things God
has a plan for our lives and that His infinite love
for us is a constant and when we live in love,
we live in Him. At times there are
disappointments in life, but we cannot always
see the future plan. Remain faithful in His love
and our mission will become clear.
When things do not go our way – perhaps we
hold onto the fact that God has got us in the
palm of His hand – and walk confidently in that
truth - choosing love always. Let us all
consecrate ourselves to the truth of God’s
Word.
