Our first communicants:
Max Andrastek ~ Bradin Bender
An older couple went to breakfast at a restaurant
where the “Seniors Special” was two eggs, bacon,
hash browns, and toast for $2.99. “Sounds good,” the
wife said, “but I don’t want the eggs.” “Then I’ll have
to charge you $3.69 because you’re ordering ala
carte,” the waitress warned her. “You mean I’d have to
pay extra for not taking the eggs?” the wife asked
incredulously. “Yes,” stated the waitress. “I’ll take the
special then,” the wife said. “How do you want your
eggs?” the waitress asked. “Raw and in the shell,” my
wife replied. She took the two eggs home and baked a
cake.
There is a lot of incredulity in the Easter Gospels, both
in Jesus’ appearances and his comments. There may
be some in our hearts as well since it is hard to believe
that the risen Christ is truly present among us,
especially when at times there seems to be so much
evidence to the contrary. But this weekend and next,
our First Eucharist celebrations set all those doubts
aside. The faith on our children’s faces, their
unleashed joy, the pride of parents and grandparents
all celebrate our deep belief that Jesus is really fully
and personally present in the Eucharist we share.
Our First Communicants have been celebrating for
months, of course, in their preparation process.
Sharing the Sacrament of Reconciliation, praying and
studying at home, an afternoon/evening retreat, and
making the bread for our Lenten Thursdays’ Soup and
Substance lunches were all part of increasing the
excitement for this great event in their lives. Our entire
faith community rejoices with you these next two
weekends, and may every Eucharist you share from
now on be as filled with joy as this one is!
Easter blessings.

Third Sunday
of Easter
Dianne Vadney
Family Ministry
Coordinator
Today’s readings are a powerful invitation to
contemplate supernatural, holy moments and
lessons. There are three elements present in
the gospel that compose the core of living the
Christian life. When looked at as action
steps for ourselves, we might reword them
this way:
1. Come to know Jesus.
2. Allow peace to reign in your heart.
3. Be transformed in your thoughts and
actions.
If we want to live in imitation of Christ – we
will get further if we know more about
Him. Reading the gospels is the best way to
do this, even just a few minutes a week.
Another way is through spending time with
Him in the adoration chapel. Share with Him
the things on our hearts, the loved ones who
need our prayers, bringing our concerns and
struggles. Like anyone we love, showing up
in person is a different experience than
calling, texting or thinking of them.
Jesus’s words to his disciples were, “Peace
be with you.” And those remain His words
for all of us. The more we get to know Jesus
through scripture, prayer and time with Him,
the more His peace is able to bless us in our
lives. We begin to realize we don’t have to
do everything ourselves. He desires to ease
our burdens and accompany us through the
challenges of strained relationships,
addiction, illness and loss. Go to Him, trust
in Him.
Truly, though, if we acknowledge that Jesus
is the Son of God, being His follower should
transform everything about us. While that
can be a tall order, we can start. We can take
small steps to follow Christ’s example of
treating all people with dignity, reaching out
to those who are marginalized and being of
service to others.
Being a believer is not the same as being a
bystander. Today’s readings are a beautiful
call to believe and to change!

Scrip is a powerful fundraising tool because
families generate revenue through purchases
they would make anyway e.g., groceries,
clothing, toys, gifts, etc. Scrip monies are used
in various ways throughout the parish and are
used to supplement tuition in our school.
Volunteers sell scrip after Masses on the
weekends and on Mondays, Wednesday afternoons
and Friday mornings at the parish office. Volunteers
also help with the filling of daily orders from the
schools as well as staff sales at the campuses on
Friday mornings when school is in session. New
volunteers are always welcome and are especially
needed after Mass on the weekends.
Remember to use Scrip for all of your
spring and summer needs!

2015 Roncalli Pierside Auction
Please join us on Saturday, April 25th for another exciting Roncalli
Pierside Auction. The silent auction begins at 5:30 with the oral
auction to begin at 7:00 p.m. The evening promises to be an exciting

Pastoral Care of the Sick/Homebound
Please notify the parish office of family/friends who are
homebound, in care facilities, or hospitalized.
We Welcome You to St. Francis of Assisi Parish Community!
Our most important involvement in the parish community is our presence at the Sunday Eucharist—
“the source and summit of our life in Christ”.
Our parish Christian stewardship is based on prayer, service, and sharing. We are called to give back to God as
generously as God has given to us.
If you wish to find out more about our parish community, please contact the parish office, or complete this form and
drop in the collection basket at Mass. You will be contacted by a member of the parish staff.
