FNB Chief Marketing Officer
First National Bank (FNB) is delighted to launch the
2015 season of the FNB Classic Clashes. Over the last
14 years, the competition has become one of the key
sporting events at school level, playing an essential
role in developing young talent.
Since 2001, the FNB Classic Clashes has continued to
grow from strength to strength and the number of
schools participating in the competition has doubled
since inception.
We believe that the 2015 season will not only showcase young talent but
provide plenty of entertainment for the fans.
Rugby and netball are some of the most popular sporting codes amongst
learners, parents and grandparents in South Africa and the FNB Classic Clashes
hopes to grow young talent in South African schools, thereby contributing to
create a pipeline of players to feed into the provincial and national squads in
future
At FNB, we are confident that, through the support of all key stakeholders, the
FNB Classic Clashes programme will continue to nurture youth sports talent in
the country and contribute to developing future sporting stars.
FNB will continue investing in sport to empower and advocate for a healthy
lifestyle among the youth. We believe in providing a platform for young sports
stars to follow their dreams and to reach their full potential, with the ultimate
goal of representing their province or country one day.
We would like to wish all participating schools the best of luck and encourage
all the players to showcase their talent and enjoy the games.
FNB would like to thank each and every player, coach, teacher, parent and
spectator who has contributed to the success of this programme over the
years. We hope that all the matches will bring the community together in the
spirit of sport and that the FNB Classic Clashes will
remain a highlight in each community’s sporting
calendar.
Remo Murabito
Director of Sport
On behalf of the parents, players and Old Boys at
Parktown Boys’ High School, I would like to
welcome the staff, parents, players and Old Boys of St
John’s College to our annual Derby Day fixture. A special
welcome to the representatives of First National Bank, who
have included this fixture on their Classic Clash programme for the third
consecutive year.
Days such as these do not simply happen, so my thanks go out to all
involved, from the Sport and Finance Office, to the Coaches and Ground
staff! The competition and rivalry between these two schools dates back
for decades. The manner in which matches are played is fierce, competitive
and in the true spirit of what makes boys’ schools such as ours special and
which reinforces our decisions to both work at and attend such fine
institutions.
Enjoy your day with us!
Jem van Vuren
MIC of Rugby
Welcome to the annual FNB Classic Clash between
Parktown Boys’ High School and St John’s College. Thanks
to all the teams which are participating in today’s rugby
clash. This year promises to uphold the very high standards
we have set in the past.
Thank you to the players participating in this year’s fixture.
Remember to enjoy every second that you get to play and always strive to
maintain a high level of dignity and sportsmanship during your game. Win
or lose, you are champions for all the hard work and preparation you have
put in for your team. It is now your time to show everyone what you can
do. Keep in mind that you are part of a team, and as a team you are only as
strong as the bond between your players. Thank you to FNB for making this
event possible. To all the staff and parents, your on-going support and
efforts never go unnoticed and you are all the unsung heroes of our
fantastic establishment. Thank you for everything you have done for your
boys!

The Parktown Boys’ community would like
to extend a warm welcome to Mr Paul Edey and all
the St John’s players, staff, coaches, parents and
supporters to our wonderful school.
Sport has the amazing ability to build bridges and to
forge strong relationships. Historically, the competition and contact
between our two schools stretches back over many decades - Old Boys
from both schools will no doubt recall the times and fond memories when
they competed on either the hockey or rugby field against one another!
I would like to thank the First National Bank for its sponsorship of this
exciting event and wish to extend my gratitude to Remo Murabito, Jem van
Vuren, the Sports Staff and the Ground Staff for the time and effort in
preparing the facilities for this event.
We all look forward to a day of closely-contested games, exciting matches
and most importantly, sportsmanship displayed by our young men.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy the day with us
Thank you to our Sponsors
