PARRISH OFFERS FOUR ART-RELATED CLASSES FOR ADULTS, INCLUDING A
NEW WRITING CLASS: THE ART OF FICTION, LED BY JENNIFER SENFT
The Popular Offerings Life Drawing with Linda Capello, Materials and Methods,
and Drawing the Museum Are Open to Adults at All Skill Levels

WATER MILL, NY 3/27/2015—The Parrish Art Museum is offering four diverse art and art-inspired
classes for adults during April and May, 2015, including a first-time offering, The Art of Fiction Writing
Workshop led by Jennifer Senft, beginning on Thursday, April 16 for four sessions. Starting on Monday,
April 13, teaching artist Linda Capello will again offer her four-session Life Drawing class. Artist Eric
Dever returns to the Museum with Materials and Methods, beginning Friday, April 17; and starting on
Saturday, April 25, architect Edgar Papazian will lead Drawing the Museum. Enrollment is limited for
these classes. Advance registration is required.
“These classes provide opportunities to practice close observation and analysis of works of art,
architecture, or the human form, and to respond creatively with visual media or personal narrative “ said

For The Art of Fiction, writer Jennifer Senft will guide participants through unique writing exercises,
referencing works in the Parrish permanent collection and special exhibitions as inspiration for writing
creative fiction, drama, and poetry. The small group classes, which run for four consecutive Thursdays
(April 16, 23, 30, and May 7) from 10am until noon, encourage interaction and constructive feedback
among participants. Senft holds an MFA in Writing and Literature from Stony Brook Southampton, an MA
in Psychology from New York University, and a BFA in Cinema Studies from NYU’s Tisch School of the
Arts. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications, and her short story “Prison Visit” was nominated
for a 2014 Pushcart Prize.
In Materials and Methods, scheduled for Fridays, April 17, 24, May 1 and 8 from 10am-1pm, abstract
artist Eric Dever uses flexible and unexpected approaches to consider how artists use color, line, and
form in both abstract and representational images, drawing inspiration from his own paintings and
process. With cues from works on view in the Museum, each class will consist of discussion and guided
experimentation with drawing and/or painting media, including charcoal, pastel, and watercolor and
acrylic paint. Dever has had solo exhibitions of his work in galleries in the New York area, including the
Kaiser Art Gallery at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, Nicholas Davies and Berry Campbell galleries in
New York City, and Sara Nightingale Gallery in Water Mill. He has also exhibited in galleries across the
United States and internationally with shows in Albuquerque, Chicago, and Paris, and his work has been
included in dozens of group shows nationwide since 1990. Dever has an MA from New York University a
BA from California Lutheran College, and attended the Otis Art Institute. No experience is necessary;
materials will be supplied
Drawing the Museum, offered on three consecutive Saturday afternoons, April 25, May 2 and 9 from 14pm, provides artists at any skill level the opportunity to respond to the Parrish itself, employing
fundamentals of drawing such as perspective, the use of vanishing points, foreshortening, and volumetric
transparency, among others. Students will receive individual attention from the instructor during classes,
held in both the classroom and within the Museum galleries. Participants age 15 and older at all skill
levels are invited, and asked to provide their own dry media supplies. Drawing the Museum instructor,
licensed architect Edgar Papazian, is the principal of doon Architecture in Sag Harbor, New York. A
graduate of Columbia and Yale Universities, Papazian has contributed to the work of architecture firms
including Ennead, Pelli Clarke Pelli, 1100 Architect, Ogawa Depardon, and James Merrell Architects in
the Hamptons.
In Life Drawing with Linda Capello, scheduled for Mondays, April 13, 20, 27, and May 4 from 11am–
1pm, students can develop figure-drawing skills in an open studio series. Male and female models will be
observed and drawn using the techniques of gesture sketches and longer duration observations.
Participants age 15 and older at all skill levels are invited, and asked to provide their own dry media
supplies. While participation in all four sessions is encouraged, participants may drop in for individual
sessions. Teaching artist Linda Capello is a master of figure drawing who has taught on the East End for
several decades. Her original work has been shown in galleries across the United States. Capello is a
graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Illustration.
