Quarter 3 Ends Friday, March 27. On Tuesday, March 24th at 6:00 PM in the PCHS Lecture Hall, the Park City School District, Park City Police Department, and
Summit County Sheriff's Office will provide an overview to parents and community members on details of the lock down on Friday
afternoon and provide an update on the current investigation.
Attention Seniors: Jostens will be in the cafeteria Thursday, March 26, during both lunches to hand out
announcements and other graduation items. All items must be paid in full in order to pick them up. Caps and gowns
will be handed out when you check out of school in June. PTO is hosting a Staff Appreciation lunch on Tuesday March 31. If you would like to contribute to the lunch

This Week at PCHS—Monday, March 23, 2015 Can You Help? The Counseling Office Needs You! I am helping arrange for local volunteers to help present for the Utah Scholars Initiative. I am looking for
about 8 local volunteers that would be willing to present a set power point that UHEAA has prepared on
higher education. The audience will be 8th graders during their PE classes on April 28th and 29th.
The volunteers would be asked to attend a 1 hour training from UHEAA on the power point and present at
least one 45 minute presentation on higher education. If volunteers wanted to present more than once,
that would be appreciated.

Saturday was the Utah Day of Percussion sponsored by the Utah Percussive Arts Society.

Howard, Joey Maizlish, Jessica Perry, Siri Reilly, Andrew Robinson, Thomas Ryan, Marisa Zanetti.
Those students are members of the PCHS Intermediate Percussion Ensemble, and are the new 4A State
Champions in Large Ensemble Percussion.
Here is why that is really exciting. The Advanced Percussion Ensemble (names listed below) from PCHS was not
allowed to compete this year at the Day of Percussion. Why? Because they are the 2014 4A Large Ensemble
State Champions. That means, instead of competing this year, they performed a showcase concert for all
attendees at the festival. Meanwhile, the intermediate class stepped up and took care of business in the
competition.
Our JV Percussion Ensemble just won a State Championship, but there is no 3A category, so they did it in the 4A
Category.
In addition, Rawson Simmons, was named the Overall State Champion (no classifications) in the Jazz Drumset
Competition. Futhermore, the percussion ensemble from Treasure Mountain took 2nd Place in the Junior High
Large Ensemble Division.
Overall, it was a good Saturday for the PC Bands, and the Percussion Studio.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
PCHS All-Sports Physicals for the 2015-16 School Year will be held on Tuesday, May 19th from 5:00-7:00 pm in
the PCHS gymnasium.
There is no charge for the physical, but a $20 donation is appreciated to help with PCHS sports medicine
expenses.
* Beginning in the 2015-16 school year and going forward, physicals will only be good until the end of the school
year, so it is a good idea to utilize the PCHS All-Sports Physicals date on May 19th.
Physicals done during the 2014-15 school year -- no matter the date -- will not carry over to next school year (the
best time to have the physical done will be between the last week of May and the beginning of fall sports).

The final score was 95/100, only one point behind State Champion American Fork Jr. High.
Members include Alice Beukema, Bella Buchanan, Riley Carson, David Carsten, Dalton Daley,
Portia Fernandez, Emma Gideon, Tori Gray, Matt Hartman, Jason Jason, Ali Kuennen, Hunter

State Champion in Junior High Marimba - Joe Dinger (9th grade)
Bret Hughes directs of all of the Park City percussion ensembles. In a major understatement, he
said, ”It was a very good day for PC Bands.” Congratulations to Mr. Hughes and all of the PC percussionists!

The Utah Technology Student Association (TSA) State Competition was held last week. The competition
challenges students to strengthen leadership and integrated STEM skills; this was the first year Park City has
participated. While most of the schools competing have more than 50 experienced students in their chapters, the
new Park City TSA chapter is comprised of only 14 registered members, but is quickly gaining popularity. We
decided to focus on four events, though there are 35 in total: Extemporaneous Speech, Architectural Renovation,
Flight Endurance and Dragster Design. Though the students entered the competition not knowing what to expect,
they placed in two of the four events competed.
• Liz Cantlebary placed first in the Extemporaneous Speech event. One of her topics was whether GMO
foods are safe or not. She won against the number one Extemporaneous Speech student in the state!
Megan Peterson and Natasha Yaworsky placed second in the Architectural Renovation event. Megan and
Natasha spent many hours after school with a local architects and builders to prepare for this event. The team of
two beat out many seasoned, primarily male teams and ended up losing to a team of four, not two.

Nick Mountz won the second heat of the Dragster Design event, but fell short in the third.
Your all welcome to come see the completed Architectural Renovation projects and we plan to display the models
in the media center later in the year. One advantage we had this year was having the awarded grants from PCEF
granting manipulatives like the 3D printer, photovoltaic equipment, and the solar water heating collector.

2015 is our 28th year of helping Park City students achieve their college dreams. We continue to have a strong
need to recognize seniors as well as provide much needed scholarship funds. For many of our students the cost of college is a stretch. Our students do a great job balancing academics,
involvement activities, work and the college and scholarship application process. We have many first
generation students attending college and many who struggle to meet the basic necessities. Your scholarship

Park City High School PTSO has had the honor of planning and implementing of the Grad Night Celebration tradition for many years. th
This year, Grad Night will be held at Jupiter Bowl, on the evening of graduation, June 5 , from 10pm to 2am. While PTSO lines up the necessary volunteers it takes to stage a large party such as this, we rely on senior parents to make monetary donations necessary to cover the cost of this party. Turnout at the Grad Night party ranges from 80-­‐85% of the graduating class. It is a fun, very lively graduation bash where our kids can celebrate one final time as the PCHS Class of 2015 in a safe, drug-­‐and alcohol-­‐free atmosphere! All funds raised are used to pay for the party venue (Jupiter Bowl), entertainment (bowling, billiards, ping-­‐pong, arcade and casino games, hypnotist, TapSnap, magician, DJ), and food & beverages. We give a swag bag containing small gifts and coupons as well as prizes and cash giveaways throughout the evening, also funded by parent donations and donations we receive from community businesses. The cost of the party runs around $9000, but everything is absolutely free to the kids! Please consider a donation and mail a check to the address below. We would appreciate donations ASAP so that the PTSO can move forward with the planning of the event and the booking of entertainment. All donations are tax deductible. Donations made through th
April 15 will be entered in a drawing where five names will be chosen at random to each receive four reserved seats on the track at Dozier Field track during the graduation ceremony.
