Testing Season Begins at SHES
Dear Safety Harbor Families,
Good luck to our 4th and 5th grade students who took the FSA (Florida Standards Assessment) for Writing
on Tuesday, March 3rd. Good luck also to our 1stand 2nd graders taking the SAT-10 this month and our 3rd
and 4th grade students who will be testing later in the month for FSA Reading. Students and teachers
have worked very hard to prepare and I am confident that our students will utilize the many strategies
they’ve learned! Please ensure that your student enjoys a healthy breakfast, is well rested and arrives to
school on time on testing days. But most of all, the encouragement and confidence we can share with
our students will help them feel self-confident in putting forth their best efforts.
February brought us some very exciting events! Thanks to Mrs. O’Steen, Ms. Conley and our many
parent volunteers for hosting HOPS! A great learning time was had by all 1st – 5th graders! Another
thank you to Mrs. Carstensen for our Kindergarten Grandparents/Valentine’s Performance! It was a
precious performance by all students! And finally a special thank you to our PE department, PTA, and
parent volunteers, including Mr. McClintock and the Jog-A-Thon team, for organizing and holding our
first annual Safety Harbor Elementary Jog-A-Thon! It was a great success and students did an excellent
job of setting goals for themselves and persevering to reach or exceed the goals set. I am proud of each
of our students for the efforts they demonstrated.
Just a reminder that with four grading periods in the school year, it is important that we are consistently
revisiting homework and at home reading routines. Since grading periods are shorter, there is not much
wiggle room when assignments or study habits are neglected. Continue to be diligent about checking
homework, Portal grades and communicating with your classroom teacher. Parents are the best
partners in education!

PTA NEWS
February was an exciting month for the PTA. The
first annual jog-a-thon was an amazing success and
the kids had a great time running laps and
challenging themselves. Thank you to Rob, the joga-thon coordinator and our parent volunteers.
The PTA provided a free book and a limited edition
spirit stick to the students who turned in all of
their Million Minute reading challenge logs.
Students who turn in their logs for all three
months of February, March and April will also
receive a free book from the PTA!
Finally, we look forward to seeing everyone at our
