MEETING
Monday 23rd March, 7pm
Kaiwaka Sports Complex
NORTHLAND BY ELECTION.
MEET THE CANDIDATES.
A Northland By-election meet the candidates event
has been organised for Thursday 19th March at 7pm
in the Kaiwaka War Memorial Hall.
An opportunity will be given to each candidate to
speak briefly, but the main purpose is to provide an
opportunity for local people to ask questions about
issues they think are important for Northland.
At the time of writing Willow-Jean Prime, Winston
Peters, Robin Grieve, Mark Osborne, Reuben Taipari
Porter and Bruce Rogan have agreed to attend.
Attempts have been made to contact all other
candidates, with no response so far from Rob
Painting, Joe Carr, Adrian Bonner, Maki Herbert or
Adam Holland.
Those attending are asked to bring written questions,
and to indicate if they want an answer from a
particular candidate. Questions intended to embarrass
individual candidates will be rejected.
It is expected that the meeting will end formally by
9pm. It is hoped that candidates will remain for a
time to talk with individuals.

all junior coaches. This year Holly

Emergency Access way
Please note that the gate in our carpark
which leads onto the field (next to the
swimming pool) is our emergency
access way for ambulances. It is
painted yellow on the ground and has a
Keep Clear sign on it.
Last Tuesday at the Sports Complex,
there was gymnastics, a public
meeting, junior rugby training, senior
rugby training, boot camp and
badminton – lots of activities
happening so there is the potential for
an ambulance to be needed, but there
was a car parked in front of the gate.
They were asked to move and a few
minutes later another car parked there!
You would not want to be responsible
for holding up an ambulance trying to
reach a patient! Please do not park in
front of the gate.

Auckland. By 1914, he was living at

OTAMATEA REPERTORY THEATRE
The Altos
Dinner Theatre - an evening of pure
escapism!
Otamatea Repertory Theatre's newest
venture is 'The Altos (like the
Sopranos, only lower)' - a dinner
theatre experience.
Theatre-goers will be treated to a three
-course dinner, while actors unfold the
comic murder-mystery around them and they will need to be prepared to
dodge the bullets!
The audience is encouraged to ‘get in
the mood’ for the fun-filled evening,
by dressing up as their favourite
gangster or Moll - there are prizes for
Best Dressed. And they may also win
a prize if they can work out
‘whodunnit’ and why. The script is
loosely based on the HBO series 'The
Sopranos' and includes themes and
references to many gangster movies
such as ‘The Godfather’. And if you
can get a group of six together, you
will get a good discount on the ticket
price.
It is a wonderful opportunity to come
to a show in your own back-yard, and
enjoy a night of camaraderie and
hilarity. Peter Flower, of Kaiwaka is
playing the lead role of Tony Alto.
Director, Maura Flower says, “The
Altos cast is having so much fun with
this production and it is hard to keep a
straight-face at times. And being an
interactive dinner show, we will have
to be prepared for the unexpected.
Every show will be different!”
Otamatea Repertory Theatre is taking
‘The Altos’ to six centres – Paparoa,
Kaiwaka, Ruawai, Maungaturoto,
Mangawhai Village and Waipu and the
season starts on 20 March. Tickets are
$50 for a 3-course meal and the show
– groups of 6 people can come for $45
each. Show and booking details can
be found on www.ort.org.nz There will
be no door sales at the caterer needs to
know numbers in advance.
The Jews Brothers Banks
It's the 20th anniversary of New
Zealand's favourite cult band and
they're celebrating with a national
tour!
The Jews Brothers Band created a
sensation when they first hit the local
scene early 1995. What was this
sound? And what was this 'klezmer'
that they were playing? For Hershal
Heescher the founder and band-leader,
this music was a return to his roots, to
the tunes that his grandfather Harry
used to play on his violin, music that
had been brought to New York by the
Eastern-European Jews. The toetapping, hand-clapping repertoire of
the Jews Brothers soon had everyone
up dancing in circles at their gigs. And
before long the band had branched out
into their own klezmer-inspired
originals, which often high-lighted the
band's outstanding ability to swing.
In the band there are three Jewish
"brothers", Hershal ( accordion), Nigel
Gavin ( mandolin/guitar) and Peter
Scott ( double bass). Jews "sis" Linn
Lorkin, lead singer and melodica
player, claims she's Jewish by osmosis
and Neill Duncan ( saxes/percussion)
is a master of 'roots' music of every
persuasion.
"…messy, loose as a goose, over the
top and simply wonderful! Jewish
grunge on a roll…" Real Groove, NZ
"… stratospheric levels of talent and
borderline insanity … like a hilarious,
swirling gypsy soundtrack to an as-yet
-unmade Muppet Mafia movie …" The Argos, Brighton, UK
