…The Seder is one part of the present-day Jewish Seven day
Passover Celebration. The name Passover harks back to the
time when God, through Moses, led the Israelites out of their
slavery in Egypt…. Christians are particularly interested in this
ritual meal because it was during a Passover celebration that Jesus
instituted Holy Communion. It should be realized, however, that
the Passover clearly predates and is entirely separate from the Eucharist. The
Seder is a later Jewish form of the Passover observation, useful, and important in
its own right, having been practiced for more than 1,000 years….. The meal we
share is a potluck meal - lamb will be provided, other meat dishes are welcome.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a potluck dish to share.

Dear Family of Peace,
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
This is the month that we celebrate the glorious news that our Savior is alive.
We have journeyed through a dark season that continually reminded us of our
own shortcomings and disappointments.
We began our Lenten journey with the stark realization that we were made from the dust of the earth and that we
will return to dust. We met weekly to reflect on the temptations that Jesus withstood and how we, too, are
similarly afflicted. And I know that many of you made your own sacrifices with choices you made to deny
yourself things you enjoy.
Now, after remembering the events of Holy Week including the arrest, trial and brutal execution Jesus submitted
himself to, we finally get to the good news!
During Adult Forum we looked at the ancient prophecy of Isaiah who foretold of the Lord’s “Suffering Servant”,
who though he was innocent, took on the sins of the world in order that we would be free from the death penalty of
our sin.
The darkness is dark indeed. Our hopelessness and our lost-ness, unbearable. The picture does not look good.
But God. The Holy Scriptures do not end with the news of judgment and condemnation of those who have sinned.
Three days after his horrible execution, Jesus came to life and rose from the dead! He lives in order that we shall
live.
Our Scriptures proclaims:
“Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The
sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our
Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 15:54b-58)
The “sting of death” is that it cut us off from the God who gives us life. The “power of sin” is in the way it
separates us from a holy God. Where we once stood alone before God, we now stand with the living Christ, who
has given us new life – eternally. And eternal life starts today!
As we celebrate this new life graciously given to us by our Heavenly Father, let our thankfulness be seen by others.
May we dare to live our lives knowing that we are redeemed and renewed. That may be reflected in our attitudes
in how we look at others or how we serve them.
“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and give his life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
His followers should do the same. Let us ask ourselves how we shall celebrate this Good News Easter brings.

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together,
with the doors locked for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood among them and said,
“Peace be with you.”
John 20:19
What joy the disciples felt when the Lord Jesus appeared to them that first Easter night! They
knew that he had been resurrected. Earlier, Peter and John had seen the empty tomb and Mary
Magdalene told the disciples she had seen Jesus in person outside the tomb. But it is one thing to
know about something and quite another to experience it yourself. They did not yet share Mary’s
joy; so they kept themselves locked up behind closed doors wondering what to do next. But all
that changed when Jesus walked right through the locked door! The disciples’ fear was replaced
by the joy of the Lord, their anxiety replaced by the peace of God that surpasses all human
understanding.
It seems to me that all of us, each in our own way, have our own “door” that we keep locked.
Perhaps we are deeply hurt by someone else’s malicious words and actions. Perhaps we are deeply
hurt by the loss of someone very near and dear to us. Perhaps, like the disciples, we are afraid and
anxious of those who harbor ill will against us. Perhaps our door is closed simply because of our
unwillingness to rid our lives of those thoughts, words and deeds that are contrary to God’s will.
Whatever the case may be, the “door” we hide behind often remains closed for a long time. While
we may feel safer and more secure because of this, the reality is, we are shutting out the Holy
Spirit’s transforming power from our lives and the peace and joy of the Easter miracle remains at a
distance. Consequently, we don’t experience in any recognized and tangible way the awesome
spiritual presence of our living Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ- and our lives are all the poorer for it.
That first Easter night Jesus walked through a locked door and gave his disciples exactly what
they needed to open the locked door and to boldly step out into the world. The peace of the Lord
and the joy of his resurrection changed their lives forever. One of the wonders of the Easter
miracle is that Christ is still walking through locked doors. Our resurrected Lord Jesus continues
to bring peace to troubled hearts and joy to broken hearts all over the world. I pray that this same
peace of our Lord Jesus and the joy of his resurrection strengthen and sustain you this Easter
season. May it open whatever locked door you are hiding behind and free you from that which
binds you. Have a blessed Easter everyone!

starting early registration
for the 2015-2016 preschool year. This early
registration is open exclusively to Peace Lutheran
Church members and current Ladybug Preschool families
until late March when open registration for the
community begins. Registration forms and more
information about the preschool are available in the
Ladybug Preschool mailbox, located in the entryway
across from the elevator and next to the coat rack.

Youth campers and families: Join Christikon at Zoo Montana for our Camper Roundup on April 12 . Enjoy
a day at the Zoo on us! We will have a scavenger hunt, camp registration, songs, snacks, and drawings for
door prizes and free camp sessions. Early-bird discount will be available.
Adults and families: Spend some time in a lovely mountain setting with some of the most-fun-to-be-with
people, at our Work Weekend May 22-25, Mountain Weekend 1 July 10-12, the Continuing Education
Retreat for rostered ministers, interested lay people and their families, Aug.3-6, Mountain Weekend 2 August
7-9. It’s also possible for adult groups to schedule a backpack trip – just call us at 656-1969 to schedule.
The annual Christikon Benefit Auction – Quilts, Vacation Get-aways, and a Whole Lot More comes on Sunday, April
26, at the Billings Depot, 4-7 p.m. Food and beverages will be available, and of course, some of the finest artistry in
both a live auction and a silent auction, including a variety of hand-made quilts, art work, gift baskets, camp truck raffle,
Saab convertible, and much more. We’ll also be seeking special support for our Sojourners Camp for at-risk youth.
Admission at the door is $15. We have a special treat this year and will be serving ice cream sundaes in honor of the first
years of the “Quilt Auction”. Hope you will come and join the fun!

Peace Lutheran Council Meeting – March 19, 2015
Opening Devotions were led by Trish Severson. “TP from Heaven” was the topic.
I. The meeting was called to order by President Michael Streich at 7:00 p.m.
II. Members present: Michael Streich, Jim Cook, Jackie Curry, Russell Fox, Tom Gruss, Mike Hansen,
Bill Miller, Derrick Monson, Larry Oddy, Trish Severson, Tiina Smith, Jerry Swenson, Pastor Bob
Coughlin, Pastor Jeff Redlin.
Additional Present: Val Ross, Treasurer, Shari Watson, Leslie Bartle, and Tina Beckman, from the
Lady Bug Preschool.
Shari Watson, Leslie Bartle, and Tina Beckman asked permission to use Peace Lutheran Church for the
Lady Bug Preschool for another year. Shari handed out a flyer outlining the program (attached to
original minutes on file) as well as contributions made to PLC. Larry Oddy and Tiina Smith offered
positive comments about the program. Questions and answers followed. Pr. Jeff offered an opportunity
for Chapel Time with the children. Tt was accepted gratefully. A discussion about curriculum,
marketing, etc. followed. The Mission Statement of Lady Bug was read. Shari brought up the recent
Fire Department inspection, and items noted at that time, including a closet, light, alarm signal, and a
clear path to rear exit. These items have been rectified.
III. Minutes. Pr. Jeff requested the last sentence under “LCMC NW District Gathering” be deleted, as that
had not yet happened. Larry moved to approve, second by Russ, approved.
IV. Treasurer’s Report. Val presented the Treasurer’s Report for February 28, 2015. Mike H. moved to
accept, second by Bill, approved.
V. Congregational Concerns. There were none
VI. Pastor’s Reports:

Pr. Bob. After a brief report on being a grandfather, he offered the following: 1. Diane has submitted
her letter of retirement effective the end of this school year. 2. As of March 1, Bob is no longer
employed by Intervarsity. 3. He gave a medical report, which was good. 4. He is pleased with the
Lenten services, including attendance numbers. 5. The Youth Encounter in Billings was good and
tiring. The speakers and musicians were great. Thirteen kids worked at Goodwill. 6. The confirmation
class is on track.
Pr. Jeff reported a great time with family on vacation. His Pastoral Evaluation took place on March 5,
and he felt good about it. He kept track of his hours and submitted them to the Evaluation Team.
Peacemakers average 10 to 11 per week, and it is going well. Julie and Jamie are very helpful to him on
a regular basis. He suggested that the Council Members be installed on April 12. Pr. Jeff requested time
off April 28-May 3, 2015.
VII. New Business
a. Nominations and Election of President and Vice President of the PLC Council. After some discussion
about the By-Laws, Russ nominated Larry as President, with Mike Hansen to remain as Vice President.
It was seconded by Jackie. It was unanimously approved.
b. Mike H. asked if we could have mail delivered to the church in a locking mail box. This will save the
money spent on a Post Office box. He will purchase it and install it. Tiina moved to have Mike install a
locking mail box, and discontinue our Post Office Box. Second by Jim. Approved.

Mike S. proposed we have a bid on the parking lot addition. The Property Care Committee will do this.
Russ moved to approve Sandi Joubert’s using Paid Time Off until used up, and consideration will be
given by Council for balance of term of employment. Second by Jerry, passed. There are five
applications for the Administrative Assistant position soon to be vacated by Sandi. Application period
closes April 4.
Youth Wyoming Mission Trip. There is a Youth Mission trip planned to the Wind River Reservation in
Wyoming, August 2-7, 2015. There are eight signed up now, with two more “very probable.” The
cost is $289 per. A deposit of $60 per student has been made. A fund raiser is planned to make $1000,
with $500 coming out of the Youth Fun. Val asked the Council to approve $1000 to help out from the
Mission Fund. Mike H. so moved, Russ seconded, approved. The projects involved at Wind River
include about one half time leading a VBS, and the other half doing clean up, maintenance, painting, etc.
A discussion of retirement plans was tabled until the May meeting. Mike H. moved, Tiina seconded,
passed.
Pr. Bob asked if Tara is still on our Mission Outreach. He will call her to determine her status.
Pr. Bob asked for Council direction on how to create a Director of Christian Education instead of a
Sunday School Superintendent. Jackie will assist him.
Team Reports
Congregational Life. No report.
Education and Youth. Tom suggested we visit the Youth Room to see the decorations.
Property Care. Jerry reported that the furnace has been fixed.
There was discussion of the name of this committee, “Stewardship, Outreach, Mission, and Finance.” It
will be cleared up by next meeting.
Worship and Music. Jackie Curry presented a written report, which will be attached to the hard copy
minutes handed out at the next meeting.
Outreach has met.
IX. Adjournment. The next meeting is April 9, 2015. Bill Miller has devotions. Larry moved to adjourn,
Mike H. second, passed.
