Divine Service
Sunday – 8:30 & 10:45 AM
March 29, 2015
Sixth Sunday in Lent – Palm Sunday
Welcome to Peace! – The purpose of our congregation is to worship God, who gives
life through Word and Sacrament; to serve one another in love and fellowship; and
to proclaim forgiveness and salvation to all through Jesus Christ alone.
Before Worship
As you prepare to worship your Lord today, spend a few quiet minutes in prayer
before the service. Review the lessons, the service notes, and pray this prayer:
Prayer of the Day
We praise You, O God, for the great acts of love by which You have redeemed us
through Your Son, Jesus Christ. As He was acclaimed by those who scattered their
garments and branches of palm in His path, so may we always hail Him as our King
and follow Him with perfect confidence; who lives and reigns with You and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
For the Children
A Cry-Room is available if your little ones need a moment. It is the first room on the
left as you walk into the church building. Sound and video are piped into the room
to enable you to hear and see the service.
Facilities
Restrooms are located down the hall and on the right side.

The Divine Service
Rite 1, p. 41
Opening Prayer
P:
O Lord, our Maker, Redeemer, and Comforter, we are assembled in Your presence
to hear Your holy Word. We pray You to open our hearts by Your Holy Spirit, that
through the preaching of Your Word we may be taught to repent of our sins, to
believe on Jesus in life and death, and to grow day by day in grace and holiness.
Hear us for Christ’s sake. Amen.
Hymn #277, “All Glory, Laud, and Honor”
The Confession of Sin
P:
Let us bow before the Lord and confess our sins.
Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we
are by nature sinful and unclean, and that we have sinned against You by thought,
word and deed. Therefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and
imploring Your grace, for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.
C: O most merciful God, You have given Your only-begotten Son to die for us: have
mercy upon us, and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Your
Holy Spirit increase in us a true knowledge of You, and of Your will and true
obedience to Your Word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to
everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
The Kyrie Eleison (Lord, have mercy)
3
The Absolution
P:
Lift up your hearts unto God!
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us, and has given His only
Son to die for us, and for His sake forgives us all our sins. To all who believe on His
name He gives power to become the children of God, and has promised them His
Holy Spirit. He who believes and is baptized will be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us
all. Amen.
The Salutation
The Collect
P:
Let us pray.
We praise You, O God, for the great acts of love by which You have redeemed us
through Your Son, Jesus Christ. As He was acclaimed by those who scattered their
4
garments and branches of palm in His path, so may we always hail Him as our King
and follow Him with perfect confidence; who lives and reigns with You and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever.
The Lesson – Zechariah 9:9-10
9
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and having salvation,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10
I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
and the war-horses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
10:45 – Sunday School, “Beautiful Savior”, ELH #54
The Epistle – Philippians 2:5-11
5
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
6
5
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
10
The Holy Gospel – Mark 11:1-10
P:
The Holy Gospel for the Sixth Sunday in Lent – Palm Sunday is written in the 11th
chapter of the Gospel according to St. Mark, beginning at the 1st verse.
1
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the
Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2saying to them, "Go to the village
ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one
has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3If anyone asks you, 'Why are you doing
this?' tell him, 'The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.'"
4
They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they
untied it, 5some people standing there asked, "What are you doing, untying that
colt?" 6They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7When
they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8Many
people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in
the fields. 9Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,
"Hosanna!"
"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"
10
"Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!"
"Hosanna in the highest!"
The Creed
P:
Let us confess our holy faith in the words of the Apostles’ Creed:
C:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
6
And in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell;
The third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the Communion of Saints,
the Forgiveness of sins,
the Resurrection of the body,
and the Life everlasting.
Hymn #279, “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”
The Sermon – Mark 11:1-10
P:
A King Like No Other
The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in
Christ Jesus unto everlasting life. Amen.
7
The Prayer of the Church
P:
Everlasting and merciful God, we beseech You in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ:
C: To have mercy upon us and to hear our prayer.
P:
Look in mercy upon Your Church. Protect it and sanctify it by Your truth. May Your
Word be taught in its purity and Your Sacraments be rightly administered. Grant
unto Your Church faithful pastors who shall declare Your truth with power and shall
live according to Your will. Send forth laborers into Your harvest and open the door
of faith unto all unbelievers and unto the people of Israel. In mercy remember the
enemies of Your Church and grant to them repentance unto life.
C: O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, hear us in the truth of Your salvation.
P:
Let Your protecting hand be over our country and over all who travel. Prosper what
is good among us and bring to naught every evil counsel and purpose. Protect and
bless Your servants, the President of the United States, the Governor of this state,
our judges and magistrates and all in authority. Fit them for their high calling by
the gift of Your Spirit of wisdom and fear, so that we may lead a quiet and
peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.
C: Hear, O Lord, and have mercy! Lord be our helper.
P:
According to Your promise, O God, be the defender of the widow and the father of
the orphan. Relieve and comfort the sick and the sorrowful (especially our
brother/sister ________ who is ill/grieving). Graciously help those who are
assaulted by the devil and who are in peril of death. Be the strength of those who
are suffering for the sake of Christ’s holy name. Grant that we may live together in
peace and prosperity. Bestow upon us good and seasonable weather; and bless us
with upright Christian counsel in all that we undertake.
C: O Lord, be with all in trouble. Hear their prayers to the honor of Your Name.
P:
We especially commend to Your care and keeping this Your congregation which You
have bought with a great price. Keep from us all offenses and bind us together in
the unity of Your holy love. Grant that the little ones who are baptized in Your
name may be brought up in Your fear. At Your table give to those who there
commune with You peace and life everlasting.
C: Let all rejoice who trust in You; let them shout for joy because You defend them.
P:
Be merciful, O God, to all, according to Your great love in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
When our final hour shall come, grant us a blessed departure from this world, and
on the last day, a resurrection to Your glory.
C: Amen. Grant us Your peace, O Lord!
8
Duet: The Lord’s Prayer (paraphrase)
CHORUS
Seek and ye shall find.
Knock and the door shall be opened.
Ask and it shall be given.
His love comes showering down.
1) Our Father, Lord in heaven,
Holy be your name forever.
Your Kingdom come. Your will be done.
Your love come showering down.
CHORUS
2) Give us food, just for this day.
Forgive. Don't tempt. Take evil away.
Yours is the kingdom, power, glory, now and always.
Your love come showering down.
CHORUS
The Apostolic Benediction
P:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy
Spirit be with you all.

Hymn #278, “O Jesus, King Most Wonderful”
Congregation verses 1,2,4,5, Solo verse 3
The Collect
P:
Let us give thanks and pray:
We thank You, Lord God the Father, that You have given Your only-begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. We thank
You, Lord Jesus Christ, that You have borne in Your sacred body all our sins, and by
Your blood have blotted out all our transgressions. We thank You, Lord, the Holy
9
Spirit, that You have created in our hearts true faith, that we know of nothing to
trust for our salvation, except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. O God, grant us Your
grace, that we may perfectly believe that all our sins are forgiven for the sake of the
passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, and so enlighten us by Your Holy Spirit,
that, in the power of our Redeemer’s death, we may day by day put off sin, and
never forsake the Lord Jesus Christ, until we see Him face to face in life eternal. We
ask it all in Christ’s name.
The Benediction
P:
The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you.
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
The Closing Hymn #280, “Ride On, Ride On, in Majesty”
The Closing Prayer
P:
O Lord, we render unto You our heartfelt thanks that You have taught us what You
would have us believe and do. Help us, O God, by Your Holy Spirit, for the sake of
Jesus Christ, to keep Your Word in pure hearts, that we thereby may be
strengthened in faith, perfected in holiness, and comforted in life and death.
Amen.

PIANO BENCH FOR SALE - Recently, Peace acquired a new bench for the
sanctuary piano, one that is adjustable, sturdier and larger, and therefore
more adaptable to a wider range of use. The bench was purchased with extra
monies from the new piano fundraiser of a few years ago. The bench that
came with the piano is now for sale. If you're interested, contact Susan Lepak at 3860853 or [email protected] for details.
FILE CABINET NEEDED - Peace has come into possession of a large quantity
of excellent church choral music, donated by a sister WELS congregation in
Minneapolis. This is a true blessing...but we don't have a cabinet to store the
music. Perhaps you have a file cabinet at home that you're not using and that
you could offer for this purpose. If so, please contact Susan Lepak at 386-0853
or [email protected].
