RoSoDak Volume 62, Issue 1 September/October 2013 Homecoming Sierra Hokanson This year’s homecoming celebration was held the week of September 16-20. Everyday was filled with fun events for both the High School and Elementary Students. The dress-up days for the week included Holiday Mash-Up Day (Monday), Celebrity Impersonation Day (Tuesday), Redneck Day (Wednesday), Throwback Thursday (Thursday), and of course Tiger/Raider Spirit Day (Friday). Beginning on Monday evening, Coronation of the 2013 Homecoming King and Queen as well as the burning of the W were held. Candidates included, Samanatha Keifer, Baylie Lane, Keana Jackson, and Sierra Hokanson for Queen, and Casey Martinek, Dexter Lick, Jared Northridge, and Matthew Wieser for King. Junior escorts were Dylan Lick and Whitney Lick. The 1st Grade Little Royalty chosen were Ava Krueger and Jett Krueger. Matthew Wieser and Sierra Hokanson were crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Tuesday morning the high school students participated in a sidewalk chalk contest. The Sophomores received 1st place for their creativity involving both the Raider and Tiger teams. That night the Lady Raiders captured a win from their rivals the FCT Rebels. Wednesday the volleyball players took on the football players in a volleyball game held that afternoon. The Lady Raiders again came out victorious. Following that, the Senior Class put their skills together in an attempt to take out some of the RHS Staff, but were left unsuccessful. Thursday the Elementary Students participated in their own Sidewalk Chalk Challenge and some float planning/building began. Friday began in a whirlwind as the high school students rushed to finish their class floats before the parade time. A pep rally was held in the gym before the parade where the cheerleaders held a contest between class, and senior athletes. The Homecoming Parade was held at 2 p.m. which drew many people to main street. That night the Tri-State Tigers took on the Waubay-Summit Panthers, capturing a victory by halftime with an ending score of 58-0. Boys State was held in Aberdeen, at Northern State University. Girls State was held in Vermillion, at the University of South Dakota. They spent the week learning about how our state government runs. While attending they developed leadership skills, worked together with other students on campaigns, and had the opportunities to run for mock state office position. YBA Amanda Brandenburger Chelsie Beyl and Amanda Brandenburger attended the Youth Business Adventure early this summer in June. Chelsie attended YBA in Vermillion, at the University of South Dakota. While Amanda attended the YBA session held in Rapid City, at Black Hills University. There they were able to be a part of a mock company and created a product, a commercial, ran a simulation to sell their product, and created a presentation to try to interest investors to invest in their companies and products. They competed against other companies who were also creating their own products. There they had team building activities to build cooperation, and a business bowl similar to knowledge bowl. All-State Chorus Tessa Dalberg All-State Chorus tryouts were held Wednesday, September 11. The Tenor and Bass parts were covered by Logan Plath, and Jacob Moeller. The altos who tried out for the part were Amanda Brandenburger and Carley Tangen. Sopranos battling for the spot included Katelyn Lewis, Kaitlyn Anderson, and Whitney Lick. Girls chosen to be a part of the All-State Chorus were Carley Tangen and Whitney Lick, for the the Soprano and Alto parts. The All-State Chorus program is being held in Sioux Falls this year on November 1-2. The concert will be on PBS at 8 p.m. Newsletter 3 Football Volleyball Luke Lick For the first game of the year the TriState Tigers headed to Haiti, SD to take on the Chargers. The Tigers faced a tough loss of 39-0. The following week the Tigers travelled to Florence, there Tri-State knew that they needed to prove themselves. The Tigers came ready to play, defeating the Falcons 30-14. Their rivals the Wilmot Wolves travelled to take on the Tigers at the first home game this season which was held in Fairmount the following Friday. The Tigers came out strong and fast and didn’t slow down. Capturing an early lead, Tri-State won 54-12. Homecoming finally rolled around and the excited atmosphere was contagious throughout the school. At game time the Waubay-Summit Panthers didn’t stand a chance. TriState pulled out another incredible win with a score of 58-0 by halftime. Anna Eggers The Varsity Lady Raiders varsity team for the 2013 season consists of Sierra Hokanson, Keana Jackson, Brianna Sand, Whitney Lick, Sasha Hokanson, Carley Tangen, Kenzie Jackson, Alyssa Braun, and Anna Eggers. Miranda Anderson also joined the team to do stats this year. Head coach Renee Zach was again joined by Assistant coach Danielle Grieger, while Robert McLean also helps out with the JrHi and JV. The Raiders travelled to GPL for their first game of the season. The Lady Raiders varsity swept the match, winning three games in a row. The following weekend the Raiders played in Wheaton’s annual tournament. There they took on CGB, Minnewaska, Ashby, and th Ortonville. September 10 the Raiders travelled to Summit. There they played 4 intense matches. Taking the first game 25-15 the Raiders were off to a good start, but the following three games proved unsuccessful. Sierra cranked out 9 kills and 10 digs to lead the Raiders for the night. Carley followed with her own 8 kills and 3 aces. Keana aided with her 13 assists. For their first home match the Raiders played TZ, and captured a match win in only 3 games. Carley and Whitney each had 6 aces, Carley and Sierra also each pumped out a total of 12 kills. Brianna took on 8 digs, with Sierra and Carley following closely with 6 a piece. Sierra also contributed with 3 impressive blocks to stop the Wambidi in their tracks. The JV squad consists of Kenzie Jackson, Alyssa Braun, Anna Eggers, Sienna Guy, Kaity Anderson, Tana Lick, Sydeny Madsen, Kailey Jackson, Marilyn Larsen, Erica Ceroll, and Mollie Anderson. The JV also played well when the teams travelled to GPL, but came up a little short in their third game, but they did pull out two successful back to back wins against Summit and Tiospa Zina. Tri-State Tiger Cheerleaders Tessa Dalberg The Tri-State Tiger Cheerleaders are just starting a new year by adding some new faces to the squad. The cheerleaders are once again lead by coach Melissa Krueger. The squad consists of Brianna Sand, Alyssa Deal, Hope Brandell, Megan Wanek, Sienna Guy, and Kaity Anderson.
