The Peacock Performing Arts Center proudly presents the 9th Street

Press Release: 3/24/15 Peacock Performing Arts Center Jim Kumas – Entertainment Director The Peacock Performing Arts Center proudly presents the 9th Street Stompers from Chattanooga, TN on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. The band generates electricity wherever they appear with their exciting blend of gypsy, hillbilly and rock ‘n’ roll. One of our Songwriters Showcases last year featured Lon Eldridge who became an audience favorite, and when he revealed that he was part of a band, they were invited to join our concert series this year. This will not only be an evening of music but an evening of firsts for The Peacock. Starting at 5 pm the Hayesville Evening Market will be recreated on the grounds and you can enjoy a sampler plate of local fresh food including teriyaki beef, salmon croquette, pate’, cheeses, a pesto and fresh baked cookies, to benefit Southern Appalachian Family Farms. Wine and soft drinks will be available inside the lobby. Tickets for the benefit are $20. th
Opening for the 9 Street Stompers and providing music outside will be the Lady J Trio, consisting of local favorites, Janice and Don Minette along with Mike Whitney. Janice and Mike have performed around the area for the past three years as Two into One but they have recently expanded to become a trio joined by Janice’s husband Don. The trio combines music, improv, comedy and blues, the perfect opening act for our main stage entertainment. Here are a few quotes from newspapers and entertainment blogs about the 9th Street Stompers. “If Chattanooga wasn’t eclectic enough with its taste in music, the 9th Street Stompers will grab that part of you that’s a little gypsy, a little hillbilly and a little rock ‘n’ roll. “ Marc Michael of the Chattanooga Pulse said, “This is no mere nostalgia; they have captured the look, sound and feel of early 20th century American Music as well as or better than anyone else I have ever heard and it was glorious”. They are an outfit of well-‐dressed no-‐counts chopping on acoustic instruments and singing about life, death, love and liquor. With Skip Frontz Jr. furiously slapping the string bass and Lon Eldridge on blues fingerstyle resonator guitar, ukulele, and kazoo sharing vocal duties and Dalton Chapman gypsy swing virtuoso on the guitar, they cull up the musical scenery of an era when the lines between swing, gypsy jazz, blues rockabilly and tango weren’t nearly as hard and fast as the drinking and dancing. Festivities begin outside at 5 p.m. with the Hayesville Evening Market; the concert begins at 7 pm Saturday, April 18th. Tickets are on sale now at the Peacock box office, 301 Church St. in Hayesville, NC between 10am – 2pm Mon-‐Fri. You can stop by or call 828.389.2787. They may also be purchased online at www.peacockperformingarts.center. Pricing: Adults $20, Students $12 Child 12 & Under $6. Tickets for the benefit are additional.
