The main objective of this seminar is to share in a practical manner the variety of different legal arrangements within which
entrepreneurs describe or hold them out as being in “joint venture”.
The term “joint venture” is more commercially driven rather legal, and businessmen seem to find it effortless to plan an adventure
of a business nature in terms of a joint venture, regardless of the legal basis of the relationship they wish to create, and often way
before that basis has been chosen. The ease of joint venture as a vehicle to spearhead a business venture substantially contributed
to its popularity, and legal practitioners must take cognisance of its popularity and leverage on it for the extra edge.
Handled well, joint ventures are challenging for lawyers to deal with. Not only is an awareness of a broad range of legal issues
relevant where a joint venture is under consideration, but the experienced lawyers may easily value-add to the success of the
venture by influencing his client to choose the form of joint venture structure best suited to all the circumstances. It is trite but
note worthy that the success of a joint venture, to a large extent hinges on how well the joint venture agreement and it ancillary
agreements are crafted.
About the Speaker:
Lim Kien Chai is an Advocate and Solicitor and has a multi-disciplinary professional and career background spanning over a period of
more than 25 years. He holds the following academic and professional qualifications: Bachelor Degree of Accounting from the
University of Malaya (Hons); Bachelor Degree of Law from the University of London (Hons); Chartered Institute of Management
Accountants from the United Kingdom; Post-graduate professional qualification in Certified Internal Auditor from the United States of
America; and Certificate of Legal Practice from Malaysia. Throughout his illustrious an his illustrious and wide ranging career, he has
held various positions and played assorted roles in a mélange of different capacities; such as Auditor, Accountant, Director, Company
Secretary of a public listed entity, practicing Company Secretary, Academician, Trainer, Legal Practitioner and Trade Mark Agent.
