PROGRAM OVERVIEW & TARGET AUDIENCE
The purpose of this educational activity is to provide communitybased physicians and other members of the healthcare team with
current, evidence-based guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment
of cardiovascular disease.
This conference has been designed for primary care, family
practice, and internal medicine physicians, as well as physician
assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, cath lab personnel, other
health care professionals, residents and fellows.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Identify cardiovascular risk factors and describe the latest
updates to effectively manage the patient with these risk factors
■
Describe the treatment options for severe aortic stenosis –
surgical vs. catheter-based
■
Discuss mitral valve pathology and the indications for
repair vs. replacement
■
Describe the latest updates in acute coronary
syndromes management
■
Discuss the latest updates in chronic coronary artery disease
management and newer oral antiplatelet therapies
■
Identify treatment options for atrial fibrillation and
stroke prevention
■
Explain systolic and diastolic heart failure and discuss current
medical treatment options
■
Discuss implantable device use (ICD/Biventricular pacemaker)
in cardiomyopathies
■
Describe and review advanced mechanical therapies (beyond
heart transplantation) for end-stage heart failure
Hosting Department
2nd Cardiovascular Symposium is hosted by Phoenixville
Hospital Cardiology and Perelman School of Medicine at the
University of Pennsylvania.
Accreditation
Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University
of Pennsylvania is accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing
medical education for physicians.
Nurses: The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania,
Department of Nursing Education, Innovation and Professional
Development is an approved provider of continuing nursing
education by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited
approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s
Commission on Accreditation.
Designation of Credit
Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University
of Pennsylvania designates this live activity for a maximum of
7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should
claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their
participation in the activity.
Nurses: The program will award 7.5 contact hours.
Certificates and Transcripts: A few days prior to the symposium,
pre-registered participants will receive an email containing
directions, additional symposium information and a link to the
symposium pre-test, a short questionnaire that will be used to
gauge participant knowledge. After the symposium has concluded,
all participants will receive a follow-up email containing a link to
the post-test, symposium evaluation and request for credit. Once
participants submit the request for credit, the credit can be viewed
on a transcript or a certificate can be printed by logging onto
www.penncmeonline.com once the conference concludes.
Registration Fees
The registration fees for the 2nd Cardiovascular Symposium
are the following: $89 for Physicians and Industry personnel;
$69 for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals; and $29 for
Residents. A special registration fee of $39 is extended to
Phoenixville Hospital and Penn Medicine employees, faculty
and staff as long as registrant has a valid Phoenixville or
Penn Medicine ID (required).
The registration fee includes attendance to the conference, a course
booklet and a link to view the presentations online, continental
breakfast, mid-morning break, lunch and afternoon break. You

Activities, then Live Events and select “2nd Cardiovascular
Symposium”. Registration forms may also be mailed or faxed to
the Office of Continuing Medical Education. Please see the top of
the registration form for contact information. All registrations will
be confirmed by e-mail.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations
must be received in writing by March 13, 2015 (subject to a
service charge of 10% of the registration fee but not less than
$15.00). No refunds will be issued after March 13, 2015.
The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone any
course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of
cancellation or postponement, the University will refund
registration fees but is not responsible for related costs or
expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed
by hotels, airlines, and travel agencies.
