Take the stress out of the Christmas period and join us for a luxury three night
Christmas Break.
Christmas Eve
Arrive at the Pennington Hotel and enjoy a rich and warming cup of
hot chocolate with a tot of rum if you wish, accompanied by homemade shortbread. At 7.30pm a delicious four course dinner will be
served in the Restaurant. If you wish you can attend midnight-mass at St. Michael’s
church at Muncaster Castle and return to the hotel and enjoy a festive glass of mulled
wine and a mince pie.
Christmas Day
A light breakfast with Buck’s Fizz will be served between 9.00am and 10.30am. From
12 noon our sumptuous five course luncheon will be served in the restaurant. Following
lunch the Queen’s Speech will be broadcast in the Morning Room and a selection
of board games will be available in the bar if you wish to participate. A buffet will be
available throughout the evening for those with room to spare!
Boxing Day
Following a leisurely full Cumbrian breakfast between and 8.00am
and 10.00am in the restaurant, you can explore the surrounding
countryside or we can provide you with tickets to view the amazing
gardens at the nearby Muncaster Castle. Or you can relax and enjoy
the peace and quiet of Ravenglass and let us look after you, leaving
yourself time to prepare for a delightful four course dinner and a wonderful final evening
with new friends and family.
27th December – A Fond Farewell
As your traditional Christmas break comes to a close, enjoy a full Cumbrian breakfast
and take time to prepare for your journey home. Later over morning coffee there will be
a chance to say “goodbye” to new friends made during your stay or take advantage of
our fantastic offers and stay with us a little longer…

Christmas Theatre in the Castle
“By the Light of the Fool Moon” December 11th until 23rd
In association with Rosehill Theatre, Hocket & Hoot perform ‘By the Light of the Fool
Moon’, a new production created specifically for Muncaster. This winter, as the nights
draw in and the fires are lit, Muncaster is brought to life with playful promenade
performance, haunting live music and a barrel-full of tomfoolery and festive cheer.
Stumble across spirits, sift through long-lost stories and sing to the stars!
The Fool Moon hasn’t occurred for five centuries. You have to dig deep into the dusty
stories of Muncaster to find any mention of it but if the legend is true, something
remarkable is set to happen this December. A curious Professor has arrived at the
Castle convinced that the conditions are right. Join him in his quest to uncover
Muncaster’s deepest secrets.
Hocket and Hoot are a new company of celebrated national artists brought together for
this adventurous production. Bring warm coats and sturdy footwear for the approach
to the Castle (particularly for the evening performances) and expect evocative music
and spirited storytelling.
