SUMMER NEWSLETTER NO. 1
Friday 17th April 2015
Dear Parent/Carer,
Infant Items
Year 1 Come and Play Sessions
This week saw the first Come and Play Session for Year 1 children, their younger siblings and parents take place in
the Infant Site hall. There was an amazing turnout and the hall was buzzing with music, games and fun. I think
everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the children were very excited to share their school
day with you. This has been kindly organised by Falmouth Children's Centre and we look forward to seeing you at
the next session which takes place on Wednesday at 2.00pm.

Gate Supervisor
I’m delighted to be able to let you all know that Susan Bullock has been appointed as the new supervisor on the
drive at the start and end of each school day to help the children arrive and leave safely. Could I remind everyone
that only school permit holders are able to park their cars on the school drive.
Tremough Games 2015
On Sunday 3rd May, the annual community games held on the university campus in Penryn will take place. This
will be the fourth consecutive year in which a day of culture and sport has been held here. The day will comprise a
festival-style showcase, offering a wide range of activities, taster sessions, exhibits and stalls by local community
groups, campus departments and student-run clubs and societies. This is an event that will appeal to the whole
community, old and young, providing something for everyone to get involved in.
Come try your hand at bubble football, table tennis, quidditch, lacrosse and many more sports and activities that
will be put on by local community groups as well as our universities’ clubs. All activities are completely free and
those who come and participate will be given a commemorative Tremough Games gift!
FXU Sports Officer and event leader, Hattie Frisby, said: “I really want to celebrate everything that we do here at
the campus and in the wider community around us this year. There is so much going on in Cornwall that people
don’t know about and the Tremough Games can offer a platform to demonstrate these activities. It can offer
people a variety of ideas to get active that suit their interests, no matter who they are!”
The day will run from 12-4pm and there will be onsite picnic areas should you wish to bring your own food, or the
canteen will also be open for refreshments. FREE entrance and parking all day!
For further information about the event, please contact Hattie Frisby, by emailing [email protected] or
telephoning 01326 255861.
Iranian Story Tellers
On Tuesday of this week, we were visited by two Iranian story tellers and musicians. The children enjoyed listening
to a Persian story accompanied by fantastic musical accompaniment. Thanks to Friends for funding this visit

Penryn Primary Academy Race for Life – Tuesday 21st April - Start time 10:2
We are delighted to announce that to coincide with the London Marathon we are going to hold our own Race for
Life on Tuesday 21st of April at 10:20 am. We are going to be raising money for Cancer Research and Great
Ormond Street Hospital. The children will be asked to run approximately 1 mile in their year groups. We ask that
the children wear their sports kits for the day and invite children to make a donation to the chosen charities. It is
important that children have suitable trainers to run in and any medication that they may require. We are hoping
for another sunny day so please ensure that your child has sunscreen, water and a summer hat available. The
Friends of Penryn Primary have kindly supplied a slice orange and a drink for each child after the race.
The children will assemble at 10:00 to walk down to the start and warm up for the start at the beginning of the old
drive to Tremough. We aim to start at 10:20.
We are looking forward to a great day of athletic endeavour and hope to inspire children to adopt a healthy
lifestyle whilst raising money for two great causes. Please feel free to come out along the course and support our
children.

If parents of JUNIOR CHILDREN would like to come and see the Race please be at the Junior Site at 10.00am. The
