If you ask the normal NFL fan, he/she will tell you that the Packers have won four Super Bowls, which is tied for 3rd best ever. The normal fan will also tell you that the Steelers are the best team in NFL history because they have the most championships out of any team in the league. While it’s true that the Steelers do own the record for most Super Bowl victories with an impressive 6, they do not have the most championships. It seems that the sports society has a mental block when it comes to the NFL pre-1967 when the first Super Bowl was played. No one remembers that the Steelers were the league’s laughing stock for many decades and all but got kicked out of the NFL into the AFL in the 1970 merger. With their win on Sunday, Green Bay not only won their 4th Super Bowl but also their 13th total championship. I’ve heard many arguments against the legitimacy of these titles because there weren’t as many teams in the league as there are now (Through the 1920s, there was an average of 18 teams in the NFL). I must dismiss that defense because no matter the amount of teams in the league, someone still had to win and separate themselves from the rest of the pack. While Pittsburgh fans may not like to hear this, the Steelers 6 Super Bowls are only good enough to be 4th on the all-time NFL championship list (The Packers, Bears, and Giants all have more). It’s common knowledge that the Montréal Canadiens have won the most Stanley Cups with 24 but many of those championships came in a 4 or 6 team league. However since the championship series in hockey never went through a name change like the NFL, Montreal is still the cream of the crop in hockey. Fans have to remember the NFL is more than 45 years old and has storied franchises dating back ninety years. To Steelers fans I must ask, how many expansion teams have to be added to the NFL before your championships “don’t count?” Hilltop Plaza Kittanning Man Contractor Found Suspected of With Marijuana DUI/Drugs A pair of McDonalds employees in East Franklin Township helped state police troopers make a drug arrest Super Bowl Sunday.
