Pickleball Games Begin at Richard G. Snyder YMCA
Starting
this
morning, a new game
is
sweeping
into
Armstrong
County:
pickleball.
Richard G. Snyder
YMCA CEO Joely
Beeker is already
‘hooked’ after Fitness
Instructor
Lisa
Brochetti, who teaches
Pilates at the YMCA,
introduced the game
accessible to all ages
and abilities.
Brochetti is also a
Pickleball Ambassador
regionally.
Fitness
Director
Hillary Brown is just
being introduced to
the game (which is
played in singles or
KP
pairs, utilizing a ball
smaller than a wiffle
ball), but said it has a lot
of benefits.
“I never even heard
of it before Lisa,” Brown
said. “It’s a lot of fun.
“The big thing is it
incorporates exercise,
but its fun.”
A demo to introduce
the game was held
earlier this month, and
participants enjoyed it
so much that it had to
continue.
“The demonstration
(Saturday,
October
4) went really well,”
Beeker said.
Starting
today
through the end of
2014, gym time will
be available for games
Monday/Wednesday
from 5:30-8:30AM and
10:30AM-12:30PM,
Saturday from 5-7PM,
and
Sunday
from
3-5PM.
Beeker said the game
will be incorporated
into some YMCA
intramurals
during
after-school programs
as well.
“I’m really excited
– any new program
or event we can have
to get people moving
here at the Y is great,”
Beeker said.
YMCA members
have free access, while
non-members
are
required to pay $10 per day.
