DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Community Resource Efficiency Extension Agent is a 12month, permanent status accruing position with University of Florida, Institute of Food and
Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension at Marion County. This position has a 100% Extension
assignment with a farm and home management advising and teaching role on water and
energy. The successful candidate will 1) conduct programs that address citizen education in
resource efficiency in Marion County including but not limited to protection of water resources,
water conservation, green building practices, and alternative energy options; 2) collaborate
with private and public partners, farmers, producers, and similar clientele involved in
conservation work (e.g., water, energy, and related areas) that will further efforts to create
healthy, resource-efficient communities; and 3) train volunteers in conjunction with Florida
LAKEWATCH. The incumbent will conduct educational programs for the general public,
contractors and policy makers; present educational workshops in subject matter areas; market
the educational program through dissemination of Pamphlets and brochures or other means;
and acquire grants. The candidate will maintain an advisory committee to receive input for
program priorities and will be expected to attain promotion and permanent status per UF/IFAS
Extension faculty guidelines. Performance of this job and other related work will be as required
or assigned by the Marion County Extension Director and/or the Central District Extension
Director.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent
acceptable) in a subject area such as environmental science, soil and water science, hydrology,
or civil engineering. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience with educational program
delivery for water conservation is preferred. The applicant must show a demonstrated interest
in public policy as it relates to community resource efficiency. All candidates must prove ability
to interact effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders (including private landowners,
homeowners, farmers, developers, and individuals in local, regional, state federal and nongovernmental organizations) and to create and conduct a public education/outreach program.
Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system and must have a
commitment to UF/IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement and
accountability. Experience working with city/county codes, ordinances, public policy, and
regulations is preferred. Experience working with either the US Green Building Council or the
Florida Green Building Coalition certified green projects is desirable.
BACKGROUND: Located in Central Florida, Marion County has many hydrologic features
including three first magnitude springs. With a growing population of more than 300,000
people, residents are challenged with elements of community growth, preservation of
agriculture and protection of natural resources.
UF IFAS Extension is a partnership between state, federal, and county governments to provide
scientific knowledge and expertise to the public. At the University of Florida, Institute of Food
and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), this is accomplished through Extension faculty members,
scientists, educators, administrative staff, and volunteers working cohesively throughout
Florida’s 67 counties. The primary goal of Extension is to disseminate the latest knowledge and
applicable technologies in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences in
