On April 14th 2015 in the month of Chitthirai, the Tamil New Year's Day is a time to
celebrate for Tamils all over the world. Tamils believe that it was on the Tamil New Year's
Day that Lord Brahma started the creation of the world. There are special prayers for
Lord Ganesha with sweets, fruits and flowers been offered to him. Tamils exchange
greetings of “ Puthandu Vazthukal ”, meaning Happy New Year on the auspicious
occasion of Tamil New Year. Tamilians too believe that doing and watching auspicious
things on the occasion of Tamil New Year's Day will bring in prosperity, wealth and all
the good things in the coming year.
