School Sports WA (SSWA) & Associated & Catholic
Colleges (ACC) Cross Country Training Squad
The School Sports WA (SSWA) Cross Country Carnival (State Team Trials)
will be held at UWA Sports Park on Friday 15th May, 2015. The Associated &
Catholic Colleges (ACC) Cross Country Carnival will be held at Perry Lakes
Reserve on Thursday 28th May, 2015. This gives your son/daughter the
opportunity to compete against over 67 ACC Schools from Perth and the South
West District.
Students are selected following the Inter-House Cross Country Carnival in
Term 1. All training, transport and event entry are provided by the School at no
cost to students, including a breakfast after every weekly training session. An
ACC Squad breakfast is conducted on the day of the ACC Cross Country
Carnival at school should your son/daughter make the ‘Final’ ACC Cross
Country Squad. It is expected that students make a full commitment for the
duration of the Term.
Training places are unlimited; however, only a limited number of students will
be selected to represent the School following training and the Inter-House
Carnival. In 2014, over 80 students regularly attended training and we often
head to Quinn’s Beach to run if the weather is good. Our goal in 2015 is to
remain in the Top 3 ACC Schools in Perth after our superb result last year.
All students who represent the School at a SSWA or ACC Inter-School
sporting competition will receive a certificate of representation and are eligible
for Sports Awards including Colours and Honours at the termly Awards
Assemblies. ACC Honorary All Star Team status can also be attained.

Philosothon
The Philosothon is an event that encourages students to investigate ethical
and other philosophical questions in the context of ‘communities of inquiry’.
Participating in the event helps the student to develop higher order thinking
and communication skills through a series of discussions with students from
other schools. These discussions are facilitated by teachers with expertise in
Philosophy and are adjudicated by a panel of university academics in
Philosophy. Some examples include: Do we own our own bodies? Is beauty
purely subjective? The actual event is held in Term 3, where you will be
competing against other schools in Western Australia. If you like asking ethical
questions, this may be the perfect activity for you. Students are welcome to
nominate for this activity on the Parent Portal, but will be notified if they have
been selected.
