INTER-HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY 2015
The Middle and Senior School Inter-House Cross Country Carnivals took place on Tuesday 31st March. They
were my first Cross Country Carnivals and I was very much looking forward to it. We introduced the Blue Chip
Timing system to ensure all students received an instantaneous, accurate time. The event did not disappoint
and I was hugely impressed by the efforts and participation rates of students. The running numbers looked
professional and all students approached the event in a positive manner.
For the second year the Inter-House Cross Country Carnivals was run on the School’s North Oval.
As with previous years, all Middle School students participated in their Year groups. Senior School students ran
time trials in Physical Education lessons and selected students were chosen to run in the Carnival. The remaining
students from Senior School were fantastic, supporting and entering into the competitive spirit for their
respective Houses.
MIDDLE SCHOOL RESULTS
In the Middle School Inter-House Cross Country Carnival, victory went to Cuthbert House. This is their second
consecutive Inter House Carnival victory; however, special congratulations to all athletes who made it onto the
podium. The talent on display was phenomenal and a special mention must go to Tyler Pedley, from Hollows
House who broke the Year 7 girl’s record with a time of 13:25, and also Mia Lochwood from Durack House
who broke the year 8 girl’s record with a time of 11:53.
SENIOR SCHOOL RESULTS
In the Senior School Inter-House Carnival, victory went to Hollows House. There were
some exceptional performances in both races. Kyle Main is to be congratulated on his
third Championship win, having won the Champion Trophy in Year 7 (2011), Year 10
(2014) and Year 11 (2015). Special congratulations go to Savannah Steinbach, Year 12
Hollows House. She has now won every Cross Country Carnival since Year 7, which is a
fantastic achievement. Congratulations also go to Sam Rayner, Year 12 Hollows
House, for his second consecutive win.
Two records were broken at the Senior School Carnival. Savannah Steinbach ran 11:32
in the girl’s race, breaking the existing record by over 4 minutes. Sam Rayner broke
the Year 12 record with a time of 14:31.
Our Inter-House Cross Country Carnival will form the basis for selection at the Inter-School level, where Years 7 to 12 will
compete in the School Sport WA State Trials. This will take place on: Friday 15th May, Week 4 of Term Two. The Associated and
Catholic Colleges (ACC) Carnival will take place on Thursday 29th May, Week 6 of Term Two. Further details will follow
regarding these Inter-School events.
Overall, I was very pleased with the Inter-House Cross Country events. I would like to say thank you to the Health and Physical
Education Department for their efforts and support, all staff involved, parent helpers, and last but not least the students. I look
forward to building upon this success next year.
2nd Outbreak of Yellow Fever
Mr Drew Hall
Head of Health and Physical Education
On the 31st March Yellow fever struck at Peter Moyes Anglican Community
School Cross Country 2015! From Year 7 through to Year 9 everyone who participated had fun by competing in the cross country race. There was an air of
anticipation. Could Cuthbert repeat the effort of the swimming carnival?
There was cheering for Cuthbert, team huddles and pats on the back as they
crossed the finish line. With a strong showing in the top 20 places of each
race, Cuthbert won the Middle School Cross Country Carnival. Health officials
are keeping a close eye out to see if yellow fever will strike again for a third
time at the Middle School Athletics Carnival.
From your House
Captains, Georgia and Callum, thanks to all who participated, thanks to
helpers and to all the staff for organising another great event it was enjoyed by
all. Go Cuthbert!

P&F LEVY HOURS OPPORTUNITY
SSWA & ACC Cross Country Carnivals - Marshals & Officials needed!!!
As part of the Associated and Catholic Colleges (ACC) Sports Association, Peter Moyes ACS is required to supply Officials /
Marshals’ to both the SSWA & ACC Cross Country Carnivals each year. Without volunteer assistance, these events would not
be able to run, and they are dependent upon the support and help of volunteers.
The Officials / Marshals are required on Friday 15th May and Thursday 28th May. We also require parental volunteers to assist
in the preparation and serving of breakfast after training on Monday and Friday mornings at School after students have completed training, commencing Friday 24th April.
Please contact Mr. B. Streeter at school on 9304 5500 or [email protected] if you are able to assist in any
these roles, or if you would like further information. This will contribute a minimum 6 hours towards your parental voluntary
hours which can be counted towards the P&F levy charge and your help is greatly appreciated.
ROUND 6 CAS SPORT RESULTS
We have seen a very successful Summer sporting Term 1 with many of our CAS Teams proving to be consistently competitive
which is our goal. With the final Round 7 results pending, it is more than likely that we will place 3rd Overall in the Tally of
Placings for Summer CAS Sport. Well done to all players involved!!!
The attitude, sportsmanship, and reliability of
our student athletes have been excellent. Only with a dedication to training and matches
will success follow and I think this has been
exhibited by our most successful teams this
Term.
The Junior Girls played superbly in a narrow
loss in the Touch Rugby meaning they will
more than likely finish second in a very successful season. The Senior Girls Touch Rugby
Team secured the top of the ladder placing
with an unfortunate forfeit by St. Stephen’s.

Basketball Teams all notched wins, as did the Year 8 Boys Team which consists mostly of Year 7’s which bodes very well for
the Term 2 Year 7 Boys Basketball season.
I am thoroughly looking forward to Term 2 when Soccer, Netball, Basketball, Australian Football commence and the SSWA &
ACC Cross Country Squad commence their training in preparation for their Carnivals. All details are online and also attached to
this edition of Sports News.
WINTER CAS SPORT – SELECTIONS, TRIALS & ROUND 1 INFORMATION
Trials and selections commence Week 1, Term 2, for both Junior and Senior CAS Sport. Due to the commencement of School
on Wednesday of Week 1, Seniors are to attend selection trials on Thursday 24th April (Week 1) for Soccer and Netball, differing from the usual Tuesday.
Year 7’s and Juniors should attend on Wednesday 23rd April (The first day back!) for Soccer, Netball and Basketball.
Year 7 Boys Australian Football will also be selected on Thursday 24th April as they are on Camp in Week 2.
All teams will be selected in Week 1 (except Junior Boys Australian Football) with Round 1 fixtures due to commence in Week
2 in the following Sports:

Soccer – Senior, Junior & Year 7 (Boys & Girls)

Netball – Senior, Year 10, Year 9A, Year 8A, Year 7A (Girls Only)

Basketball – Year 7 (Boys Only)

Australian Football (Commences Thursday Week 3) – Year 7 Boys & Junior Boys Only
Junior Teams will be based around those students who have been attending pre-season Soccer, Netball and Australian Football training regularly in Term 1 as stated in the Inter-School Sports Booklet given to all students at the start of the year. Those
students who also participated in Summer Sport will also be considered.
Year 7’s will play their Round 1 fixtures vs. LJBC as scheduled and will be transported to and from Year 7 Camp. Students are
asked to ensure they have their correct sporting attire with them as necessary.
Junior Boys Football practice, trials and selections are conducted in Week 2 on Thursday 30th April.
Parents should enrol the sons/daughter online via the Parent Portal – Teams will be oversubscribed.
Enrolments and trials are open to all students in order to make the ‘Final ACC Squad & CAS Teams’, and all students who enrol
are expected to attend trials and selected students are then expected to attend all training sessions and fixtures.
Please note that any Winter CAS Sport can be selected in addition to ACC Cross Country. Please enrol for all via the Parent Portal
online.
I would strongly encourage any students who participate in a competitive sporting activity outside of School to select that
Inter-School Sport as their Co-Curricular activity. i.e. if your daughter plays Basketball, Soccer, or Netball or Football in the
Community, they should also look to represent the School at that particular sport.
The Inter-School Sports Teams should be made up a selection of students from various Community Teams, resulting in highly
competitive teams across a wide range of sports. There is no charge associated with representing the School at Sport and it is
highly likely CAS Teams will be oversubscribed.
The level of competition is high and we play St. Stephen’s Duncraig & Carramar, St. Mark’s Anglican Community School, Irene
McCormack Catholic College, Lake Joondalup Baptist College, and Prendiville Catholic College.
All students are encouraged to represent our School and should your son/daughter play community sport, it is emphasised
that School representation is expected wherever possible in that particular sport. Coastal Associated School Sport encourages
participation, sportsmanship and healthy competition. Our ACC Squad values are ‘Dedication, Hardwork & Ambition’. There
are numerous trials for Representative and State teams that can be pursued if School representation is achieved.
All fixtures, venues, transport and equipment are provided by the School at no cost. It is expected that students make a full
commitment for the duration of the Term. Students who are unable to meet this commitment will be moved into an alternative Co-Curricular activity.
Ladders & results can be found at: http://www.metisc.com.au/iscoresn/index.cfm?db=5&foid=4
Links to Fixtures are also included in this edition of Sports News for all CAS Fixtures.

SSWA Netball Carnival – Parental Team Umpires needed!!!
In order to successfully run the SSWA Netball Carnival, parents are offered the opportunity to assist as Umpires to a Team on
the day. Without volunteer assistance, these events would not be able to run, and they are dependent on the support and
help of volunteers.
Team Assistants are required on Friday 1st May at Kingsway Netball Centre; however, most parental volunteers meet at Peter
Moyes Anglican Community School in the morning and travel on the bus.

these roles, or if you would like further information. This will contribute a minimum 6 hours towards your parental voluntary
