Bryan J Miller Silent Heroes Essay Contest (Sophmores)
Scholarship Deadline: February 1, 2015
Requirements: The Silent Heroes essay contest is now a statewide scholarship program sponsored by
the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce, Mountain America Credit Union, and the Larry H. Miller Group of
Companies, KUTV, Broadway Media, and Media One. The scholarship program is open to all
sophomore high school students within the State of Utah. The essays recognize outstanding
individuals within the community who selflessly serve to improve the lives of those around them.
High school sophomores nominate their hero/ine by writing an essay (1000 words or fewer) that
describes why their nominee should be considered a Silent Hero/ine. The students use their essay to
explain how their hero/ine has personally impacted their lives or how they have improved the community.
Students can receive help writing their essay at the Salt Lake Community College Writing Center.
Essays are due by February 1, 2015. The panel of judges is comprised of representatives from eight
prominent community businesses. The best essays will be recognized at an awards dinner on April 23,
2015. Finalists will be awarded a scholarship from the Larry H. Miller Group and the scholarship money
will be placed in a Mountain America Credit Union college fund at a high rate of interest until the finalists
graduate.

CTE Scholarship & Tuition Awards

Requirements: CTE Scholarships and Tuition Awards are open to any graduating senior student who plans to get CTE
training after high school. This training must result in one of the following:

Candidates must be a legal U.S. resident, have senior status and graduate from a Utah-sponsored, public, secondary school

T.H. Bell Teaching Incentive Loan Program

Scholarship Value: The Teaching Incentive Loan (TIL) is funded by the Utah State Legislature. TIL
recipients are required to pursue an educator preparation program, obtain educator licensing, and then
teach in Utah public schools for a period equal to the time they received assistance. The TIL consists of a
waiver (of tuition and fees at the Utah public institutions and $995.00 per semester at private institutions)

Seventy-two single students receive a 2/3 housing scholarship to Ventana Student Housing.
The Wolverine Ambassador LEAD Housing Scholarship is valued at $2,000, which covers 60 percent of
the cost of rent, and is paid directly to Ventana Student Housing. Students are responsible for their own

Preps Magazine STEM Student athlete stars

Preps Magazine is excited to be entering a new sponsorship relationship with US synthetic.
We will highlighting some of these students with feature stories in the magazine, and we will be working
with US Synthetic to create a college scholarship program as part of our agreement with them.
We are looking for: Student athletes, meaning a relatively high achieving student who also excels at one
or more sports.
Boys and girls who are currently juniors or possibly sophomores.
Planning to attend college with the intent to study in one of the STEM (Science, Technology, engineering,
Math) fields.
