Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
Staff
Next week, two of our relieving staff will complete
their time with us. To Mrs Sally Bellis (Science
Specialist) and Mrs Teneile Tuohy (Rm 4
Teacher), thank you for your outstanding work at
PBPS. I can assure you that the school will gladly
appoint these teachers at any time in the future.
School Business Plan – Vision Statement
Thank you for the feedback concerning the question I posed to you in
a recent Parent Letter - “What does the PBPS Community see as
the qualities we want our students to possess as they graduate
from primary school to secondary school in the21st century?”
I have received the following suggestions:
Resilience, Courage, Wisdom, Creative, Collaborative, Literate,
Mathematical, Critically Aware, Technological

Semester 2 Reporting to Parents
Reports will be given out next Monday 29 June. I have read all of our
students’ reports and, overall, I am very pleased with our students’
progress as evident in these documents. Our learning area priorities
are of course English, Mathematics and Science, however, the
importance of a well-balanced curriculum, including the Arts, Physical
and Health Education and LOTE, are not be undervalued. Obviously,
not all students will perform at high levels in all of these areas.
As Principal, I have asked our students to always do as well as they
can and take every opportunity to “grow” with the learning programs
that our school provides for them. I will be addressing the students
next Monday about this and also the importance of discussing their
reports with their parents and determine at least one goal to strive for
next semester to improve their learning achievements at Pickering
Brook Primary School.
(AFL) and netball matches at the Orange Grove PS. Matches will
commence around 1pm.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend because I will be in Bunbury
participating in a professional development course on National Quality
Standards, with ECE staff, Ms Kinner and Mrs Wood.
Centenary Celebration Footy Match – PBPS Piranhas v PBFC Old
Boys Sunday 28 June
We are still looking for more players, either former students of our
school or fathers of students of this school. If you are interested in
playing, please refer to the attached flyer and respond to me by
tomorrow afternoon, closing time – or meet me at the Pickering Brook
Sports Club at 2.50 pm on Sunday 28 June 2015. The game is
definitely going ahead – so the more we get there the merrier!
Kind regards
Part of the report indicates to parents that an interview with the Derrick Ernst
teacher is requested. I ask that you respond to this, if applicable to
your child. I do point out, though, that parents are welcome to contact Principal
the school at any time and arrange an appointment with their child’s
teacher. Another part of the report indicates absences from school.
Quite clearly there is a strong correlation between a high number of
student absences and declining student performance.
I again
emphasise the importance of your child attending school regularly,
including Kindergarten, throughout the school year.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
Continuing on the theme of Cyberbullying. What constitutes Cyberbullying? Children who use the Internet can be Cyberbullied or
harassed through Internet services like email, chat rooms, instant messages, social networks or through websites. Bullying
through mobile phone technologies is also considered Cyberbullying.
It includes teasing, spreading online rumours and sending unwanted or threatening messages or defamatory material. While it
can have a damaging effect on children and young people, parents can encourage them to take control of the situation. This
may be done by:
•
Advising children not to reply to any messages from a bully. Often if bullies don't receive a response they will give up.
•
Learning how to block a bully, so they can't make contact.
•
Keeping a record of the harassing messages and any replies. This may help parents, or the authorities, if necessary, to
find out who is sending them.
•
Keeping usernames and passwords secret. If someone misuses a username and password to post damaging
information about a child it can be difficult to remove.
•
Children recognising that if messages are threatening, a parent or carer should be told immediately. Cyberbullying, if
threatening, is illegal and can be reported to the police.
•
Contacting the website administrator (often known as the webmaster) to ask for content to be removed, if bullying
information has been posted on that website.
PARENTS CAN:
•
Check the privacy settings for internet services and see how to report abuse.
•
Use support services such as Kids Helpline Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800 or visit www.kidshelp.com.au or the Bullying
No Way website www.bullyingnoway.com.au
•
Ask Library staff for links to cyberbullying information.
•
Talk to the child's school if cyberbullying involves another student.
•
Report threatening messages to the police.
•
Contact the National Internet Safety Helpline for advice. on 1800 880 176 or visit www.netalert.gov.au
I hope this information is helpful. Next time we will look at Communication.
