We continue to be inspired by the wonderful people we meet in our community. Our priority project of building a new 400 metre four lane training track is very close to being approved for development this summer, adding a huge new element to your PISE experience when complete. In anticipation of the PISE track we offer running programs for a variety of levels from beginner to performance level, and are looking forward to using the track for our programs and services. This year we received wonderful support for our Adapted Physical Literacy Programs from the Telus Victoria Community Board, RBC Learn to Play project, CPC and Canadian Tire Parasport Jumpstart Fund, Victoria Foundation and the Rotary Club of Oak Bay. This has increased our ability to offer these wonderful programs to everyone in the community! We are excited to continue in our efforts to provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy a positive experience in physical activity and sport. We wish you a great summer and many healthy, active days! Robert Bettauer Chief Executive Officer Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) is a movement to improve the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. CS4L links sport, education, recreation and health and aligns community, provincial and national programming. The Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) Rectangle focuses on the ‘Health of the Nation’ pathway (lifelong health, wellness, participation and enjoyment), rather than exclusively on the ‘Excellence’ pathway. PISE’s commitment to helping create a healthy, active community is reflected in this model. Long–Term Athlete Development (LTAD) is a seven-stage training, competition and recovery pathway guiding an individual’s experience in sport and physical activity from infancy through all phases of adulthood. CS4L, with LTAD, represents a paradigm shift in the way Canadians lead and deliver sport and physical activity in Canada. canadiansportforlife.ca For further information visit: AWARENESS ACTIVE START: MALES & FEMALES 0 - 6 » Daily Physical Activity » Develop the ABCs of Physical Literacy by focusing on learning proper movement skills such as running, jumping, wheeling (wheelchair sports), twisting, kicking, throwing, catching, skating and skiing FIRST CONTACT/ RECRUITMENT FUNDAMENTAL: MALES 6 - 9 & FEMALES 6 - 8 » Focuses on FUN! » Focuses on general, overall development » Integrated mental, cognitive and emotional development LEARN TO TRAIN: MALES 9 - 12 & FEMALES 8 - 11 » Major skill learning stage: all basic movement and sport skills (Physical Literacy) should be learned before the growth spurt » Overall physical, mental, cognitive and emotional development TRAIN TO TRAIN: MALES 12 - 16 & FEMALES 11 - 15 » Major fitness development stage: endurance, strength, and speed » Overall physical, mental, cognitive and emotional development » Develop fundamental mental skills TRAIN TO COMPETE: MALES 16 - 23 +/- & FEMALES 15 - 21 +/» Sport, event, position specific physical conditioning » Sport, event, position specific technical and tactical preparation » Sport, event, position specific technical and playing skills practised under competitive conditions TRAIN TO WIN: MALES 19 +/- & FEMALES 18 +/» Ages are sport-specific based on international normative data » Maintenance or improvement of physical capacities » Further development of technical, tactical and playing skills ACTIVE FOR LIFE: ENTER AT ANY AGE 4 » Minimum of 60 minutes moderate daily activity or 30 minutes of intense activity for adults » Transfer from one sport to another MEMBERSHIP Integrated fitness environment with accessible equipment. For athletes this development continues through the Train to Train, Train to Compete and Train to Win stages of Long Term Athlete Development. Critical to this period of growth is proper strength, mobility and conditioning to assist injury prevention. PISE’s Girl Powered and Boys’ B.L.A.S.T.T. are specifically designed for this purpose, while the DRIVE and our customized athlete training for youth are both geared towards high performance. We believe physical activity contributes to overall well-being and design our programs to support you in whatever your personal goals may be. Most PISE programs are progressive in nature; they are designed to be inclusive and assess participants’ fitness levels on the first day, then build in intensity over the term of the program. This helps prevent injury and ensure effective training that maximizes results for each individual. Our expert Strength and Conditioning Coaches will help motivate and guide you along the way. Meet France PISE Strength & Conditioning Coach France Legault took an interest in biomechanics and athletics at a young age which led her to the pursuit and achievement of a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic and Exercise Therapy at Camosun College. France is now a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (NSCA®) and a Certified Athletic Therapist (CATA®). Whether her clients are members of the retired population, weekend warriors or high performance athletes, France looks forward to celebrating even the smallest victories with all populations. France enjoys helping people reach their potential, meet their goals and ultimately achieve heights they had never previously thought possible. France is also a new recruit for the Central Saanich Volunteer Fire Department.
