elcome to sunny, outdoor weather and PISE’s 2015 Summer
Community Program Guide, containing all the services and
programs we provide to help you enjoy summer fully! 2015 has
brought a number of new, exciting initiatives and programs to
PISE. We continue to be inspired by the wonderful people we
meet in our community.
Our priority project of building a new 400 metre four lane training
track is very close to being approved for development this
summer, adding a huge new element to your PISE experience
when complete. In anticipation of the PISE track we offer running
programs for a variety of levels from beginner to performance
level, and are looking forward to using the track for our programs
and services.
This year we received wonderful support for our Adapted Physical
Literacy Programs from the Telus Victoria Community Board, RBC
Learn to Play project, CPC and Canadian Tire Parasport Jumpstart
Fund, Victoria Foundation and the Rotary Club of Oak Bay. This
has increased our ability to offer these wonderful programs to
everyone in the community! We are excited to continue in our
efforts to provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy a positive
experience in physical activity and sport. We wish you a great
summer and many healthy, active days!

Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) is a movement to improve
the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. CS4L links
sport, education, recreation and health and aligns community,
provincial and national programming.
The Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) Rectangle focuses on
the ‘Health of the Nation’ pathway (lifelong health, wellness,
participation and enjoyment), rather than exclusively on the
‘Excellence’ pathway. PISE’s commitment to helping create a
healthy, active community is reflected in this model.
Long–Term Athlete Development (LTAD) is a seven-stage
training, competition and recovery pathway guiding an
individual’s experience in sport and physical activity from infancy
through all phases of adulthood. CS4L, with LTAD, represents a
paradigm shift in the way Canadians lead and deliver sport and
physical activity in Canada.

EXERCISE THERAPY
Are you recovering from an injury or health condition?
Exercise therapy at PISE consists of individualized evaluation and implementation of safe and effective exercise
prescription for injuries, functional limitations, and temporary physical disabilities. Its purpose is to improve
musculoskeletal function, orthopaedic limitations, reduce pain with activity and maintain a healthy state of wellbeing with current physical disabilities or injuries. This includes corrective exercise and rehabilitation techniques
and procedures to promote an environment conducive to optimal healing in preparing the individual for safe
reintegration into an active lifestyle. Exercise therapy can benefit everything from the common muscle strain
to the chronic nagging injury. A certified athletic therapist and exercise physiologist will conduct an initial
assessment and consultation to evaluate and prescribe exercise and rehabilitation procedures specific to your
condition. Services we can provide:
• Injury Assessment
• Manual Stretching Procedures
• Biomechanical Assessment
• Joint Mobilization Techniques
• Rehabilitation Exercise Prescription
• Supportive Taping & Bracing Application
• Return to Activity/Work Exercise Programs
• Cryotherapy Application
• Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) • Massage
Techniques
If you have further questions about exercise therapy, please e-mail Lindsay Lynk at
[email protected] or phone

Physical Literacy Programs
PISE’s goal is to help create a physically literate community.
The foundation of our efforts towards this goal is in offering fun children’s
programming that teaches the fundamental movement skills which
develop physical literacy. This helps build the confidence necessary
for a lifetime of sport and physical activity. Our efforts include providing
opportunity and access to programming for socio-economically
disadvantaged communities and individuals through various Greater
Victoria schools and centres.

play with peers. PISE instructors adapt activities to make sure that all children find success
and have their individual needs met.

youth programs
The foundation of our youth programming is to continue the development of physical literacy, whether youth are competing
in sport, or just wanting an active lifestyle. For athletes this development continues through the Train to Train, Train to
Compete and Train to Win stages of Long Term Athlete Development. Critical to this period of growth is proper strength,
mobility and conditioning to assist injury prevention. PISE’s Girl Powered and Boys’ B.L.A.S.T.T. are specifically designed for
this purpose, while the DRIVE and our customized athlete training for youth are both geared towards high performance.

PISE PROGRAMS
PISE programs are developed for all skill levels
and interests. We believe physical activity contributes to overall well-being and design our
programs to support you in whatever your personal goals may be. Most PISE programs are
progressive in nature; they are designed to be inclusive and assess participants’ fitness levels
on the first day, then build in intensity over the term of the program. This helps prevent
injury and ensure effective training that maximizes results for each individual. Our expert
Strength and Conditioning Coaches will help motivate and guide you along the way.
Meet France
PISE Strength & Conditioning Coach
France Legault took an interest in biomechanics and
athletics at a young age which led her to the pursuit
and achievement of a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic and
Exercise Therapy at Camosun College. France is now
a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (NSCA®)
and a Certified Athletic Therapist (CATA®). Whether her
clients are members of the retired population, weekend
warriors or high performance athletes, France looks
forward to celebrating even the smallest victories with
all populations. France enjoys helping people reach their
potential, meet their goals and ultimately achieve heights
they had never previously thought possible. France is
also a new recruit for the Central Saanich Volunteer Fire
