Thistle House
Thistle House is a Scottish dance
band rewired for high voltage. Consisting of
David Knight on fiddle, Dave Wiesler on
piano, and Dan Emery on highland pipes,
small pipes, and wooden flute, Thistle House
is guaranteed to pump adrenaline into the
most tired feet -- especially when the pipes
start up! All three musicians are avid and
accomplished Scottish country dancers as
well as nationally recognized musicians, and
this guarantees that the music they make will
always be danceable and exciting.
Ellen Sears
Ellen Sears started Scottish Country Dancing
in 1989, began teaching in 1995, and
received her teaching certificate from the
Royal Scottish Country Dance Society in
2004, at TAC Summer School, with John
Middleton as her tutor. She loves all forms
of dance and any music to which one can
dance; but, it’s the passion expressed by the
driving reels and elegant Strathspeys that
makes Scottish Country Dancing her
favorite. Ellen lives and teaches in New
York City, has danced on several New York
area demonstration teams, and recently
taught at the Nutmeg Workshop in
Connecticut. She is delighted to have friends
all over the world from this dance
community. When Ellen is not dancing, she
designs lighting for architecture.

Our Highland Ball will again take place in
the elegant ballroom of The George
Washington Hotel in Washington, PA. There
is a spacious wooden dance floor and a
balcony overlooking the length of the
ballroom where spectators can relax, enjoy
the music, and have a wonderful view of the
lines of dancers moving together. A large
fireplace and crystal chandelier contribute to
the feeling of old-fashioned elegance.
We have reserved a block of rooms
until March 6th, 2015 at the nearby Hampton
Inn. There is a special rate of $99 a night for
a room with two double beds, with full
