Mosaics for Kids
Mosaic: A picture or decoration made of small, colored pieces
of inlaid stone, ceramic, glass, or other material. In this child’s
version of mosaic artwork, we will use colored polymer clay.
Students will learn to roll out slabs of clay, impress designs into
the clay and cut out pieces to form their final mosaic work of art.
Using a wooden block, a mirror or a photo frame, students will
create their own designs to decorate a fabulous piece. Instructor:

Spiraling Architecture Painting
This watercolor painting class is a bit out of the ordinary.
Students will first learn about the Austrian architect and painter,
Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who was known for his spiraling,
bold colors and lack of straight lines in architecture. Using a few
special techniques, students will invent a few buildings that flow
with Hudertwasser’s imaginative creations. They will go home
with a panoramic watercolor painting of their own unique skyline.

The Nonsense Class
Inspired by Dr. Seuss, this class is
exclusive to Art Cube Studios and
created by Amanda to promote a
high level creativity in students! Dr.
Seuss once stated “I like nonsense.
It wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy
is a necessary ingredient in living.
It’s a way of looking at life through
the wrong end of a telescope.” So
awesome. In this class, students will
hear a lot and see a lot of Dr. Seuss’
words and images for inspiration then
will invent and construct their own
character using a variety of media
(mostly paper-mache) but the most
important part of this class is that
their character is made of a bunch of
nonsense. (We’ll go into that further- in class.) For now, just
know that this class will be indubitably inventive and fantastically
fun! Instructor: Art Cube Studios. MB

Abstract Painting
Using acrylic paints on canvas, students in this class will learn
more than just how to splatter paint and call it a masterpiece
while the rest of us wonder what is so great about it. We’ll
introduce them to a few important abstract artists and a couple
different actual styles of abstraction then show them how to
take something realistic and “abstract” it to make it artistic and
creative. They may even come out with a masterpiece of their
own. Instructor: Art Cube Studios. MB

Art a la carte
If you are interested in doing something creative and have
a desire to learn how to paint or draw, but perhaps are not
quite sure about it... this is the class for you. We will walk you
through recognizing what your interests in art might be then
move you through subject matter and create a lesson for your
individual artistic desires. Choose from watercolor, acrylic paints,
colored pencils, charcoal, graphite, etc. This class is similar to
independent sessions since each student will be working on a
different project except that in this class, students have peer
interaction and feedback which is an asset when learning art.

Crafts with Ms. Chocolate!
Ms. Chocolate is always bringing fun, exciting and unique craft
activities to the Art Cube and so we thought “how much fun would
it be to put a class of crafts on the calendar and just let anyone
who loves to create do something each week and go home with
who knows what!?!” So... that’s what this class is about! When
we say crafts, we mean high quality crafts that may inspire you to
do more at home as well or perhaps it will be just something fun
and whimsical as a one-time use only... maybe functional works,
maybe decorative. You’ll just have to come and find out what
you’ll make, like a surprise but we know you’ll love it. Kids and
adults are all welcome in this class! Instructor: Art Cube Studios.

Geocaching - NEW
Come explore the Plainfield Park District’s parks,
and facilities. See what you can find. The parks that
will have caches at are Renwick Community Park,
Northwest Community Park, Ottawa Street Pool
and Settlers Park.
Is it a hobby or a game? Maybe it is a sport, or
a way to discover places of beauty right in your
own hometown. There is no question about the
cost however, because it is absolutely free!
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game
with high tech elements. Using a GPS (or an app
on your smart phone), you search for geo-caches
hidden by others who have posted the coordinates
of their “hide” on the website using a computer. There
will also be details so you will know if the search will
be easy or difficult to find and whether the cache will
be large or small.
