There will be road closures on
Monday 7th July and no vehicles will
be allowed onto roads affected.
Cars will not be allowed to park on
the route. If you need to move your
car, do so before the road closes
otherwise it will be moved.
Impact on some roads:
Uttlesford and Braintree:
7.30am to 4pm
Chelmsford: 8am to 5pm
Epping Forest north of A414:
8am to 5pm
Epping Forest south of, and
including, A414: 9am to 5pm.
The A120, A12 and M11 will be very
busy so allow extra time for travel.
Roads leading directly to the route
will be ‘access only’. You can travel
on the road but not onto the TDF
route.
Businesses may wish to plan
contingencies or make new
arrangements to make the most of the working day.
The Tour de France is the largest free
sporting event in the world. More
spectators are expected to line the
route compared to the Olympic
Torch relay.
Volunteers will be at railway stations
and the roadside to help direct
spectators. The closest stations to
the route are:
Great Chesterford : 20 min walk
Braintree: 40 min walk
Chelmsford: 20 min walk
Epping Tube Station: 11 min walk
The roads will be open for walkers
but cyclists will have to dismount.
Cyclists and horse riders will not be
able to use the closed roads until
they re-open.

The Tour de France was
established in 1903.
It is the third largest sporting
event in the world
The race takes place over three
weeks and 3500km, 20 to 22
teams of nine riders compete for the yellow jersey in July each year. 12 million spectators of all
ages line the route to watch the
famed publicity caravan and to
support the cyclists.

race c
The Tour de France is essentially
split into two groups: the publicity
caravan, which is made up of the
vehicles immediately in front of
the peloton; and the race convey,
which contains the peloton and the
vehicles behind.
Since 1975, the Tour has always
finished on the Champs-Élysées in
Paris.

the stage or fall behind the time
limit.

lowest cumulative time.
Green Jersey
Overall leader based on
points.
Polka Dot Jersey
‘King of the Mountains’
based on points gained
from mountain climbs.
White Jersey
Rider under age 26 with
the fastest overall time. King of the Mountains (KOM) –
Points are gained by reaching the top of a designated climb first.
Sprints – Short sections
on the flat, which have been pre-identified, where riders will sprint for a line to gain points towards the green jersey.
