MUSIC DEPARTMENT TRAVEL POLICIES
All Platteville School District policies apply when Platteville students are
traveling. Please be advised that any student, who, in the best judgment of
chaperones and music staff, is found to be in violation of any of these
rules/guidelines, will be sent home immediately via commercial airline at
his/her family's expense.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. We will be doing lots of walking. Bring comfortable shoes!
2. Be flexible. Changes will be made to accommodate the group.
Go with the flow.
3. Be prompt (which means early) for everything! Wear a watch!
4. At any stop, or arrival, please stay seated on the bus until you are
given instructions by a chaperone or music teacher. Quietly
LISTEN to directions, then follow them.
5. Students must participate in every aspect of the trip. They may not
opt out of tours, etc.
6. You’ll only have fun if you stay positive. No whining!
7. What chaperones and music staff say, goes. No arguing!
8. Hats are not allowed on the trip. Please leave them at home.
9. All outstanding school work must be completed before the trip,
which means by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8th.
10. Students must stay with the tour group at all times. When
sightseeing in smaller groups, students MUST be in groups of
three or more at all times. This includes free time at the hotel.
11. Should you get lost or become separated from the group, call
a music teacher on their school cell phones.
7
CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE
1. All school policies apply while on the Nashville trip. This
includes the Platteville School District Student Conduct and
Discipline Plan (accessed at
http://www.platteville.k12.wi.us/district/board/policies/443Rule2.pdf). Level I, II, and III Misconduct will be handled
by our trip administrator. Level IV Misconduct is grounds
for dismissal from the trip at parent expense. You will be
held accountable for the consequences of any laws that you
may violate.
2. The mandatory expulsion policy as printed in the Platteville
High School student handbook does apply to our Nashville
trip.
The school board shall expel a pupil from school whenever it
finds the pupil was in possession of a dangerous weapon,
facsimile firearm, alcoholic beverage, drug paraphernalia,
or under the influence of an illicit drug or alcohol at school
or at school functions.
3. We are representing our school, our community, and our state
whenever we travel. Music students will conduct themselves
appropriately at all times through respectful dress and
behavior. Students will also treat all adult chaperones, bus
drivers, and tour guides with the utmost respect.
4. On the day of departure, all student bags will be searched by
a chaperone before being loaded on the bus. Chaperones
reserve the right to inspect all rooms and luggage at any time
during the trip.
5. All students have the right to feel safe while on the trip.
Students who feel unsafe should speak with a staff member.
8
BUSES
1. Students are assigned to a bus, and must ride this bus at all
times. Seats will be assigned only if it becomes necessary.
2. All bus snacks must be NUT FREE to provide a safe
environment for everyone. Please check your snacks!
3. Music students will maintain a clean and happy bus. Garbage
will be placed in receptacles, and messes will be cleaned up
promptly.
4. Open containers are not allowed on the bus. You may bring
sealed plastic bottles of water, juice, or sports drinks.
5. The buses will stop every few hours for food and restrooms.
In between stops, the bus restroom may be used if absolutely
necessary.
6. Electronic devices: Whether they are your music, your
camera, or your book, you need to use them appropriately.
We hope you spend more time with live people than virtual
people. You don’t travel with your 90 closest friends every
day…interact with them in person! If we find you are using
your phones in an inappropriate way, we will take them.
When we are not at the hotel, cell phones should be silent and
in pocket or purse.
7. Use your time on the bus to have fun with old friends and
make new ones. Play cards, watch a movie on our bus tvs,
talk, play MASH, learn to juggle...the possibilities are
endless!
9
HOTEL
1. Room captains will get room keys upon arrival, report any
damage in the room upon arrival, and report to the designated
chaperone upon departure time for final check-out.
2. Individual students will be responsible for any personal
charges over and above the cost of the room at the hotel.
3. Students who wish to spend time with people other than their
roommates may gather in the lobby or breakfast areas during
free time. Only people assigned to a room may be inside that
room.
4. Be considerate of other guests in the hotel. Loud noise in
rooms or hallways in unacceptable! There will be no playing
of instruments in hotel rooms.
5. Lights out is at 11:00 p.m. each night. Chaperones will enter
all rooms and must see each student’s face before checking
off that room.
6. Students must stay in their rooms between lights out at 11:00
p.m. and wake up call at 7:00 a.m. Cell phone use is not
allowed during these hours. An armed security guard will
patrol the hallways between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00
a.m. 6:30 AM workouts will have signup sheets and be
supervised by chaperones.
7. NEVER prop open hotel doors. Keep your key on your
person at all times. Never open the door unless you know the
person on the other side. If you do not know someone at
your door, call a chaperone and call the front desk.
10

1. Each student is allowed one suitcase no larger than 52 linear
inches (16x12x24) to be carried under the bus.
2. Each student is allowed one backpack or similar-sized bag to
