Fairy Tales What makes a story a Fairy Tale??? A story written especially for children involving fantastic forces and beings. (such as fairies, wizards, goblins, elves, trolls, monsters, talking animals and many other unrealistic elements) Fairy tales have an Oral Tradition They were told over and over again until finally someone wrote them down. Today’s fairy tales are probably read to us from a book. PERSONIFICATION Definition: Giving human qualities to an animal, object or idea. The Beginning and The End!! Most Fairy Tales start off the same way. ‘Once upon a time’ And ends with ‘Happily Ever After’ Your beginning paragraph(s) should hook the reader into wanting to continue with the story. Good Character Fairy Tales should have a good character, or a character that does the right thing. Evil Character As with a good character, and evil character makes the fairy tale much more interesting. Other Elements Royalty (King/Queen/Prince/Princess) or Castles appear in many fairy tales Magic Fairy Tales often have a magical event or something special happens. Problem and Solution Fairly Tales have a problem and a solution to that problem. It’s how we get to the solution that makes the fairy tale interesting and exciting.
