3. OVERVIEW
Turned and milled from solid bars of stainless steel and/or bronze, HollenWolff SM868 mechanical bearing-lock cufflinks are engineered for ease of
installation and unprecedented investment security through use of pushbutton locking mechanisms. The SM868 is a double-sided, self-retaining, gravitylock cufflink with a milled octagonal profile, capable of being disengaged and still worn independently on both sides of the cuff, for example in order to
roll up one’s sleeves. This cufflink is available in a myriad of one or two-tone finish combinations and is capable of being personalized via laser engraved
inscription in a recessed diameter defined as the “personalization area” in the drawing above.
4. MATERIAL & MANUFACTURE
Each SM868 set is comprised of (14) components that have been precision-machined on Swiss turning lathes from solid bars of 316L stainless steel
and/or C510 bronze to tolerances as low as .0002” [.005 mm]. This process is comparatively higher in investment than the common method of casting
cufflinks via lost wax, due to the time and tooling required to cut away metal from the spinning bar. However, Swiss machining is unmatched with
respect to precision in higher-integrity materials such as those identified above, and also provides unmatched character due to trace turning lines that
demonstrate method of manufacture. Although more difficult to machine than alternative “free-machining” alloys, these materials enable superior
durability, corrosion resistance and finish. All turned stainless components are subsequently passivated and polished or media blast prior to being
coated in various finishes that, in addition to their beauty, provide maximum resistance to wear and abrasion. This product is manufactured in the United
States with international patents pending.
5. AVAILABLE FINISHES
Finish refers to texture and colored coating. All stainless steel components (other than internal springs and bearing balls) are PVD (Physical Vapor
Deposition) or DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) finished with ultra-hard zirconium or titanium nitrides for wear resistance and color in an environmentallyfriendly process. These processes require a line-of-sight in order to coat individually fixtured parts, resulting in color evolution in various areas dependent
on geometry, further providing depth of character and part individuality. Cufflink bodies and buttons are finished independently, enabling an extensive
array of two-toned combinations. Furthermore, each body (other than DLC bodies which are only furnished in Matte Carbon) can be specified in either a
Matte or Polished (though not so much as to remove all evidence of turning) texture. The standard texture for all button mechanism components is
Polished. The standard texture for bronze bodies is “As Turned”. All bronze convertible shirt stud housings will remain uncoated (Patinating Raw).
BRONZE COMPONENTS ARE INTENTIONALLY NOT TREATED WITH ANY PRESERVATIVE, AND AS A RESULT WILL NATURALLY PATINA OVER
TIME AT VARIOUS RATES DEPENDENT ON EXPOSURE AND HANDLING.

6. OPERATION
HollenWolff self-retaining cufflinks feature a patent pending gravity-lock security feature. As a result, THESE CUFFLINKS ARE EASILY REMOVABLE IF,
AND ONLY IF, THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS FOLLOWED: the head of the pushbutton on the male link must be facing downward (or so it is
upside down) when depressed, allowing the floating ball-lock retainer on the male end to disengage and drop. For this reason the male link should
always be installed on the bottom/inner cuff. May be installed prior to shirting and opened or closed as desired during wear without link removal.
7. MAINTENANCE
Clean with mild soap and water for removal of dust and debris. Shake out excess, air dry and polish with the included microfiber polishing cloth. Screws
are bonded and mustn’t be removed. Buttons should spin on the male links in unison with the opposite end. If screws are noticeably backing out of
links, they should be returned to HollenWolff for repair or replacement. When not in use, cufflinks should be stored in their leather traveling case.
8. PACKAGING
Comprised of a handmade vegetable-tanned leather traveling case, microfiber polishing cloth, and black anodized aluminum housing.
9. PERSONALIZATION
.68 caliber cufflinks feature a recessed personalization area surrounding the button on each cufflink face. As an option, this area may be personalized
with two independent text messages (one for both male halves and one for both female halves) via laser engraved inscription, provided space allows. If
this option is selected, customers may also choose to inscribe a third personalized message on the exterior of the aluminum outer housing.
