Kudos to the race office for giving us a competitive rodeo to fire
into for the mandatory payout! Rather than talk about my top
picks, which are fairly formful, I will mention a few that I think
will be 'overbet' and may not hit the ticket. #1 Dr Flamingo is a
horse that likes to save ground, but I think he might have to do
some heavy lifting tonight in big bulky field. He typically doesn't
fare too well when he has to do a lot of work. #7 Allamerican
Extra and #8 Beignet are likely to be sitting 10th & 11th once
the dust settles, and it would seem nearly impossible for them to
close and finish on the ticket from that far back. Once in a
lifetime chance with the big carryover tonight! The cake has
been baked, now you just have to light the candles! Good luck to
all!
If pinned down to one ticket, this is the one I would play. If your
wallet is thick enough, I would also include a ticket with #9 Fox
Valley Christo on top and #6 American Gold in the second
slot. That will run you an extra $68.60 but could prove lucrative.
Those two jump off the page for me as the most probable
winners.

#6 American Gold is the hot horse in here as he shoots for his
third straight. He's brimming with confidence, he's proven he's
versatile and he's paired up with a Hall of Famer in Wally
Hennessey. I'll use him on top with six other formful horses to fill
out the second through fifth positions on the ticket.

The most likely winner of the race is either #5 Angle of Attack
or #6 American Gold, but you can find real value in #9 Fox
Valley Christo who may go overlooked due to the post
position. He was favored against better last time and appears
here at 15-1 on the morning line. Throw #7 Allamerican Extra
into the mix, and you have a couple of price options along with
the two logical horses. Remember, you don't have to be the only
winning ticket now, so align your ticket to reflect who you
genuinely like!
#9 Fox Valley Christo - When trainer Gaston Lareau puts up a
catch driver, watch out.
#6 American Gold - As sharp as they come.
#1 Dr Flamingo - 7 for 16 in the money, and better numbers
when trained by Mike Hardy.
#2 Maxnifizent - Could be the best horse in the race.
#5 Angle of Attack - Must use with Bruce.

I'm going to try to turn this into a trifecta and put ALL in the
bottom two spots. That will increase the price of the ticket, but
that could be offset if we can catch a few longshots underneath.
With this big field, it's very hard to predict who will fill out the
bottom spots and really anyone can hit the ticket. In this race, I
envision #5 Angle of Attack clearing the lead while #1 Dr
Flamingo takes the pocket early. By the stands the first time, I
think it's likely that Hennessey makes a move to the top with #6
American Gold, leaving them sitting 6-5-1 at the half. I don't
think the pace will be too hot here, so I think they will stay that
way around the track. Any of these three have legitimate chances
to win. Other horses who I think can crack the top three include
#2 Maxnifizent, who should get a ground-saving trip and has
strong final quarters, and #9 Fox Valley Christo, who is
probably better than most of these horses with Wallis at the
lines, but will face a difficult trip from post 9.

This puzzle appears to have a number of contenders who can
take the top spot on this mandatory payout night. To this "capper"
it looks like the favorites have drawn mid to outside on the gate,
but I'll be looking for some value picks. As well, an added twist
for this event is we have 2 trailers which we don't normally card.
I've mapped out the above ticket to try and solve this Jackpot.

Although the above ticket is not the cheapest ticket constructed,
we have to realize that we are playing into a record-setting pool
at Pompano and every handicapper should take advantage of the
mandatory payout. I narrowed my ticket down to two horses on
top and I built my ticket accordingly around them. Finally, I’m
hitting the “all” button in the last leg in hopes of a longshot
coming in to increase the payout. Good luck to all players.

#6 American Gold has won both of his last two races at this
level of competition. He looks like he should be able to garner a
three-peat tonight. However, this is a horse race and anything
can happen. #5 Angle of Attack has historically done very well
in this class. He tried his luck in a higher class win no success,
so he moved back to this level last start but made a break. He
appears to be the only likely contender to be able to upset #6, but
will need a clean effort to do so. #1 Dr Flamingo and #9 Fox
Valley Christo appear to be the only ones who can hang with
the top-two selections. If either the #5 or #6 falters, these are
the two who can pick up the pieces and complete an Exacta or
Trifecta. #1 starts from the rail and has tactical gate speed. He
should receive a favorable trip. Kevin Wallis picked #9 over #8
and #11. The #9 starts from the far outside, but has some early
speed and could still work out a trip. In looking at the fourth and
fifth place contenders, the only horse that does not figure at all is
#4 Docdor Laughing. Furthermore, I do not see #6 finishing
fourth or fifth. If he is not part of the trifecta, he will finish up
the track. So to save some money #6 was removed from fourth
and fifth on the ticket. However everyone besides #4 and #6
were used. In this field practically anyone could grab a minor
share of this 20¢ Super High Five.
#5 Angle of Attack - Did well the last couple of times he’s had
clean miles in "4's," . . . at least has Bruce, a BIG PLUS!
#9 Fox Valley Christo - On the engine from here, especially in
bulky field. Wallis picked over two others.
#6 American Gold - Has great form now, and my guess is he'll
be on the prowl early looking for a spot in front of #3 & #4.
#8 Beignet - Former Open pacer obviously has aches and pains
but he’s in a class where, if he’s close to even 80%, can hit the
ticket.

This race is incredibly wide open because the two obvious
horses, #5 Angle of Attack and #6 American Gold, are
vulnerable, and any number of horses are capable of "waking up"
or are improving into this race. That said, it's smart to integrate
some outsiders into your tickets, who, for me, are #7
Allamerican Extra and #8 Beignet.

This is one of the most competitive races I've seen for a
mandatory-pay High 5 with several possibilities. That being said
the most likely winners appear to be starting from the middle of
the gate as both #5 Angle of Attack and #6 American Gold
look very tough in this class. If you can get the winner down,
which looks most likely to be one of those two, you need to
spread far and wise as it appears many of these are capable of
hitting the ticket. The most logical way to play this is like a
superfecta with "all" in the fifth spot because, well, who can
handicap who might finish fifth in a race? You don't want to
leave one or two bombs out of that spot and have one of them
clunk up to beat you. This looks like a very tough ticket;
remember the goal is to just hit it. There is $200k extra up for
grabs here. Don't try to get too fancy.
#5 Angle of Attack - always a solid threat at this level; just has
to behave here
#6 American Gold - 2 wins & 2 seconds in his last 4; he's tough
to ignore again
#7 Allamerican Extra - a value player for this, but usually takes
action at the $4k level
#8 Beignet - drops back down in class; shows enough speed
to factor
#9 Fox Valley Christo - has an outside chance; coming off a
pair of trips in 1:53
#1 Dr Flamingo, #2 Maxnifizent, #10 Joltin’ Colt - they'll be
looking for a trip to try and hit the top 5

It’s difficult to look past either #5 Angle of Attack or #6
American Gold in this spot, and you can bank on one of
them in the top three with confidence. The key for a nice
score then becomes which horses to couple with them—
especially if you can beat one of the two out of one of the
top two spots. #1 Dr Flamingo from the rail could get a
decent suck along trip in a full field and has paced fast
enough to win this. #9 Fox Valley Christo drops back to
$4k claimers after an even-paced effort versus $6k last time
and retains Wallis as that driver’s choice.

Two elements in the complexion of this race tend toward a likely
presser-stalker bias: 1) the abundance of early speed and 2) the
presence of not one but two starters in the second row. While
#5 Angle of Attack and #6 American Gold tend toward
forwardly-placed efforts, the former has enjoyed solid form at the
$4,000 level and the latter demonstrated ability to sustain
uncovered bids from close tracking trips. They, on account of
form and versatility at this level, earn spots in the top spot of my
ticket along with #9 Fox Valley Christo (15-1 ML), who could
benefit greatly from a pressured pace, especially noting his
return to this level off a solid tracking effort at the $6,000 level.
They seem to be the top three contenders, with #2 Maxnifizent
and #11 Progressive Hanover showing good staying power off
midpack stalking trips. As such, they earn spots just beneath the
top trio, while #1 Dr Flamingo can prove a factor for a minor
share. The greatest concern I have for this ten-year-old is the
likelihood of traffic trouble after a likely stampede to the fore
from #2, #5, #6, #7, and #9. I’ve included #7 Allamerican Extra
and #8 Beignet in the final slot of the ticket, as while they’ve
both been competitive at this level, the shape of the race suits
neither the one-paced tracking variety nor the deep closing type.

This race has the ability to set up a couple of different ways.
There is a little speed towards the inside with #1 Dr Flamingo.
Last time out from post 7, he went to the front and didn’t miss by
much. The draw definitely helps out this week so he is a use on
the front end of the ticket. #4 Docdor Laughing is the
questionable horse for me. He has had a couple of tough trips
from the outside, but if you’re looking for a price this could be it.
Every few starts this gelding seems to sneak his way onto the
ticket. The favorite will likely be #5 Angle of Attack who has a
lot of speed to show against this class. He broke stride last time
out after dropping down from the $8,000 class. He definitely
looks like one of the class horses of the race. #6 American Gold
is another very nice speed horse, but can also close from off the
pace. The one thing that he needs to worry about is the
possibility of getting parked to the first quarter. If that happens
he will be in big trouble. Some others I feel that can hit the ticket
are #2 Maxnifizent, #3 Oil Magnet, and #8 Beignet.
Maxnifizent put in a game second place effort last week from
post 6, closing very strongly against a decent class. Oil Magnet
gets some post improvement this week, and Beignet is dropping
down in class this week. I used all in the fifth position for two
reasons—one of them being the fact I am looking to potentially
catch a price, the other is it is very difficult to gauge who will be
on the ticket in fifth. Good luck taking down this big play in the
Hi-5!
