POPS submission requirements: 1. Must be at least 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” (1/2 of an 8-1/2” x 11” sheet). Anything smaller will not be accepted. Check bulletin board for your “bad” article. Need half sheets? Terri and I have oodles of them! 2. Also, any slips not signed (with a handwritten signature) will not be accepted. A typed signature will not suffice. This has long been a POPS rule . Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board. Bunch for Lunch: Wear your knife, fork, or spoon jewelry you made this year with Sheryl since our March theme is Culinary. The meeting will start at 10:00AM and lunch will be around 11:00AM. It will be a Salad Luncheon (Bring your favorite salad to serve 12) with a $2.00 cover charge for table service, drinks, and lovely rolls by Dolores Bauer. The guest speaker will be from the International Culinary Institute. Contact Jackie Landon at 515-491-7139 for more information. Cleaning the Kitchen: Kitchen Spring Cleaning has been CANCELLED. The kitchen is too busy to schedule clean up right now, so they will try and set up a date next week. District #2 Meeting: On Thursday March 19th they will meet in the Meeting Room. Eilene Ackerman will be in charge of the meeting. Director Dave Anley will be in Costa Rica. District #3 Meeting: They will have a meeting and discuss hosting the ice cream social on Mar. 22nd. Friday Night Movies: This Friday night, March 20th, at 7:00PM in the Activity Center, the movie “COME the MORNING” will be shown. It’s a story of why does GOD let bad things happen to good people. Friday Night Dance: This Friday night dance is featuring “ BELLOWS & BRASS from 7:00-10:00PM playing a great variety of music. Your donation at the door is $5.00 each. Everyone welcome Fund Raising Campaign: Contributions now amount to over $8,000, and if you are interested in contributing to this project you can obtain an envelope in the Park office. All the proceeds will be returned if the project does not take place. Any amount can be contributed: $25-$50-$100, any amount accepted. Jewelry Class: Last jewelry class this year, we will be making a slider out of a dinner fork on March 18th at 10:00AM in Room “B”. All supplies are furnished, and your cost for the class is $12.00. Knitters and Crocheters: Last week, Jerry and Elaine Thompson delivered 36 blankets and 35 caps to McAllen Hospital. We totaled around 70 blankets and 85 caps for this year. I’m proud of all who worked on this project of love and charity. We have also given 8 lap blankets to residences in the park who were in the hospital so far. Sharon Rike will be coordinating these blankets during the summertime. Anyone who wants to make a blanket for the babies during the summer, the measurements are 36” x 45” when completed. Line dancing will be March 27th in the Main Hall beginning at 9:30AM. The first hour starts with Beginner info & review, the 2nd hour progresses to Beginner Plus level dances. All dances are taught & cued throughout. Class is free for Pharr South residents and guests staying in the park. Note: NO class on March 21st. For more info, call Jeannie at 956-739-5925. Painted Cup Potluck: The Painted Cup potluck is the last big event of the season and concludes with a Free music show. It will be held on March 19th in the Main Hall. Pizza Luncheon: Meet at Peter Piper Pizza on Tuesday Mar. 24th at 11:30AM. A sign up sheet is posted in the Hall. Please sign up by Mar. 23rd. Owners, renters, & guests join us. Questions? Call Marion Platte at 956-702-2370. Quilter’s Corner: We will meet this Wednesday (18th) to do group work on the blocks for our new quilt. ALL who have 1/4” feet for their machines, please bring them. Those who don’t can help in other ways, like pinning, pressing, and layout. Please come and help if you can. A tree skirt project will also be shown by Becky Schoonover as a possible project for next December. Come see! Real Estate Open House: Due to Easter, there will be no open house on Sunday April 5th. The last open house of the season will be Saturday, April 4th from 1:00-4:00PM. Good Luck selling your homes and have a good summer. Saturday Night Supper: The menu is pulled pork sandwiches, chips, salad, dessert, coffee, iced tea, and water. Your cost is $6.00 ea. Social Hour: Every Tuesday in the Main Hall at 5:00PM is the Pharr South Social Hour. Bring one dish to share and your own beverage. The tableware is furnished. Come over and meet with your neighbors. Step One Exercise Class: Come and join this exercise class which is open to all individuals. Classes are from 8:009:00AM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the Main Hall. Please bring small weights. Watch bulletin board for any changes. From: Elaine Cox A BIT OF PHARR SOUTH HISTORY Wally and Elaine Cox have resided here at Pharr South Park for 35 years, or some say more than 35, but at any rate they have lived here for a lot of years. Elaine sent the editor a bit of history and I would like to repeat it here for the benefit of the new owners and others curious about the development of the park. I am quoting as follows: “PS was developed October 22, 1979 by Cumming & Perry. By February 1980 the club house was partially done, and the swimming pool, hot tubs, and landscaping started. A few lots had been sold in December 1979, but most in 1980. Lois Zimmerschied and the Cox’s are the only ones still in the park, and bought in February and March of 1980. By 1982 all lots were sold and the park turned over to the property owners. A Park Board was elected.” Elaine Cox asks the following: “If anyone would like to take over the Historian’s job, please contact Elaine. This is going to be my last year. Thirty years is long enough. I’ll be happy to help someone about what needs to be done. Elaine Cox’s phone number is 956-800-7455.” FLEA MARKET NEWS A BIG Thank You to everyone who generously donated, worked, or purchased something at the Flea Market on Saturday March 4th. Our total was $2,908.85. Please be sure to check the totals for each event on the sheet posted in the meeting room. Well done! Also, don’t forget to set things aside for the Fall Flea Market which is scheduled for November 28, 2015, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. If you need a table for fall, the list will be posted on the board by April 1st and will remain there all summer. If you have a new grandbaby, great grandbaby, or great, great grandbaby, these are reasonable gifts. The sale of these items helps to replenish our yarn supply. Sharon Rike made the sweater set, Jan Johnson made the Chenille blanket with two caps, and Mary Stevenson made the blue baby blanket with cap. Please provide them with our account number, which is 384356. FROM THE OFFICE: 1) ATTENTION to Lot Owners: Please let the office know who will be cutting your lawn this Summer. The Park is NO LONGER offering this service. 2) Note to all Palm Tree owners: We have a company who will be trimming our palm trees in Pharr South Park. The cost is $16.25, so please come to the office and pay for this service before you leave. 3) The regular meeting of the Board of Directors will be held Thursday March 26th at 8:00AM in CARD ROOM “B”. Both the agenda and a sign up sheet for anyone wishing to speak at the meeting are posted on the board in the Meeting Room (across from the library). Note: persons wishing to speak before the Board MUST sign up before 7:00AM on meeting day. Among the items to be covered: the West Fence of our Park and the Building Committee. 4 PRAYERS FOR: Praises: Waneta and Lew Heaton’s 21-year old grandson, Michael, has been found with many spots on his lungs. A diagnosis shows he has invasive spots and the blood work came back and they are not cancerous. Thank you for your prayers. Concerns: Marva Phillips was transferred from here to a hospital in Oklahoma City. She had a nine hour surgery and made it through fine. She needs our prayers for healing. Evelyn Bone fell and fractured her hip. She has been moved to Legends in McAllen for rehab. Collette Spooner is hospitalized with ovarian cancer. She is in Renaissance Hospital. Pat Widlowski fractured her pelvis. She is in rehab at the Legends in McAllen. Please pray for Bob and Mary Davis, former residents, as Bob faces life threatening issues. Pray for Mary as the diagnosis looks grim. Pray for Karen Mann as she is having some health issues. Terry Nieto’s father needs our prayers. He is in Edinburg Nursing Rehab to strengthen his muscles. Todd Bublitz, of Williston, ND, son of Harold and Cathy Bublitz is living with Lew Gehrig’s Disease. He is being flown to Mayo in Phoenix to do a tracheotomy in his throat for better breathing. His parents have returned to North Dakota to be with him. Please keep them in your prayers. Claire Leverington’s nephew and Tony DeDominces grandson, Chase DeDominces was in a snowmobile accident Friday night with major injuries to the brain. Surgery was performed on Saturday morning. Many prayers are needed for this young 20 year old. George French, 190 Sagebrush, is having triple bypass surgery Tuesday, March 17th. at the Heart Hospital. Jeanette French and Jane Heinen are sisters. Pray for good travel weather, and a safe travel, for those leaving the park this month. There are others who are not well in our Park, and we are praying for you also. Pray for those who are the caregivers. It is difficult to watch and take care of their loved ones. Pray for those Christians overseas facing life threatening situations from ISIS and some other religions. Pray for the US Military who are facing danger every day. They need our prayers too. SPECIAL THANK YOU NOTES Thanks to Pastor Parriott, and all who offered prayers and concerns during my recent bout with cancer and am happy to report that as of Monday the 16th, my Doctor said that the report he received says I am now cancer free. I was in ICU for a week at McAllen Medical and have beem put on oxygen so my movements have been curtailed somewhat. Rose is being treated for some undetermined problems concerning heart and kidneys. The four shows averaged 155 people per show. For the year $ 661.00 was netted for the park, plus $271.00 in ice cream bar sales. The shows for the 2015-2016 season are (Dec.) Jul & the Chrome Wheels, (Jan.) Johnny Ray Gomez, (Feb.) Bill Chrastil. And (Mar.) Southern Anthem. Keep coming…..we’ll do our best to procure some great entertainment. Since January they have returned paper to recyclers to the tune of $500 plus, which makes money for the park and keeps our park clean.
