IDC is a dream that has been realized – an academic institution that has changed the face of higher education in Israel. It has become a successful academic pioneering model and a source of inspiration. By joining IDC Herzliya, you will be joining one of the leading academic institutions in Israel. IDC Herzliya was founded as a private, non-profit institution of higher education which does not rely on government subsidy. IDC Herzliya's founders sought to create an Israeli university where personal achievements go hand in hand with social responsibility. Our outlook, which is rooted in our motto of "Freedom and Responsibility", emphasizes initiative and leadership alongside community service. From its inception, IDC sought to train the leaders of tomorrow by offering innovative thinking and educational programs which combine academic study with practical, hands-on training. We believe that the knowledge and tools you will receive, will allow you to fulfill yourselves in your career and contribute to the shaping of the local and global society. 2 "Our world view is embedded in our motto of “freedom and responsibility” and emphasizes the importance of initiative and leadership alongside commitment to the community." In recent years the rules that shape our lives have rapidly changed in front of our eyes. We, at IDC Herzliya, believe that this constant evolution is here to stay – it constitutes a new world order to which academia was given the task of providing an appropriate response. This pace of change requires fundamental adjustments and a new interdisciplinary form of instruction, apt to deal with the challenges of the 21st century. The graduate program in Organizational Behavior and Development (OBD) is an answer to those challenges and provides an opportunity to study with the field's leading lecturers, benefiting from their rich academic and practical experience. I am convinced that those of you who join us will enjoy not only an excellent training in organizational behavior and benefit from an extensive professional network, but will also make unique learning experiences and friendships for life. 3 WELCOME FROM THE DEANS "We offer students and professionals the opportunity to acquire expertise in issues that confront organizational development, leadership and management within Israel and around the world." These courses are important for understanding the complexity of individual and group behavior within organizations. Examples of professional workshops (the topics are changed yearly): »» Executive Coaching »» Group Facilitation »» International Perspective on Organizational Consultation »» Listening Skills »» Psychoanalytic Applications in Organizations During the second year, students take three enrichment courses. These courses aim to enrich and deepen their knowledge in specific issues that are related to organizational behavior, group processes, business administration, and organizational counseling and development. Business Administration Courses Core Courses Students take eleven core courses: »» Two courses in Organizational Psychology, designed to ensure the acquisition of theoretical and empirical knowledge about organizational behavior at the individual and system levels. »» Three courses designed to provide theoretical and empirical knowledge on the macro aspects of organizational management and design. »» Six courses designed to ensure the understanding of organizational change processes, the functions and tasks of organizational consultants, and the issues related to professional ethics: »» Introduction to Organizational Change and Development »» Theoretical and Practical Aspects of the Work of Counselors Within Organizations »» Organizational Diagnosis »» Organizational Interventions »» Professional Ethics »» Organizational Sociology Core courses also include meeting with senior managers and organizational consultants who present real-life cases of organizational diagnosis, consulting and development (voices from the field). 8 During the second year students take three courses in business administration. They then present the class with their findings and submit a report by the end of the course. Practicum During all four semesters students take practicum courses (first year practicum, second year practicum) which are designed to develop and train basic counseling skills and provide students with professional training in organizational diagnosis and organizational interventions. The deadline for the presentation of this paper is by the end of the second year summer vacation. Students who take the OBD research track with thesis are exempted from six credits in the following fields: workshops; and enrichment courses. The students have to take only one professional workshop and one enrichment course (a total of four credits). Thus, students who chose the research track with thesis have more available time during the second year of studies in order to conduct their research and write their MA thesis. This insurance plan provides comprehensive health coverage for *$790 US per academic year, which will be charged at the beginning of each year. In order to have continuous coverage, the policy will automatically be renewed from one academic year to the next unless the student notifies the school in writing that he/she wishes to cancel. * Rates are subject to change according to insurance company rate fluctuations. 28 29 RAPHAEL RECANATI INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Oudi Recanti Chairman, IDC Herzliya Board of Directors My father, Raphael Recanati, had a dream and his vision was embraced by me – to bring those in the Diaspora closer to Israel. At the Raphael Recanati International School we continually strive to achieve this goal by strengthening the bond between Israelis and students from around the world. When I meet our graduates, I realize that we are fulfilling the dream. I have the pleasure of hosting the students at our home, where I am equally amazed by the growth and maturity they exhibit, their knowledge of Israel and its history and their understanding of the miracle of the Zionist dream. These young men and women become the future leadership of the country, and of the Diaspora, endowed with the tools and knowledge to excel wherever life takes them. At the beginning of the academic year I am always amazed to see our freshman students, from over eighty countries, enter the RRIS filled with promise and ambition. Three years later, I feel very fortunate to be part of this outstanding academic institution which fills me with pride and hope for the future of Israel, and the continuity of the Jewish people.
