Andy Warhol creates Silver Pillows for Merce Cunningham’s performance in “Rainforest.” Pierre Cardin creates the “egg carton” dress. The neoprene is pressed to give the silhouette a space age look, much like all of Cardin’s designs. 1968 Revlon introduces the very first “designer fragrance” Norell, while working with Norman Norell in 1968. 1970 The first issue of Essence Magazine is published in 1970. U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War ends on August 15, 1973. VOGUE 1974 Patty Hearst is kidnapped at age 19 by the Symbionese Liberation Army. They brainwash her and she helps them hold up a bank in 1974. Her punishment is controversial due to her situation and her trial attracts the attention of many newspapers. 1973 1974 1974 Donna Karan begins working for Anne Klein in late 1960. When Klein dies in 1974, Karan becomes head designer of the house. 1974 Diane von Furstenberg creates the wrap dress which promotes the working women trend in clothing, and soon becomes her signature.
